Avram Grant sacked by Chelsea

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Avram Grant sacked by Chelsea

Post by jmjhb » Sat May 24, 2008 6:03 pm

From their official site:
GRANT LEAVES CHELSEA

Chelsea Football Club can confirm that Avram Grant has had his contract as manager terminated today (Saturday, May 24). This follows meetings over the last two days.

Everybody at Chelsea FC would like to thank Avram for his contribution since taking over as manager last September.

We will now be concentrating all our efforts on identifying a new manager for Chelsea and there will be no further comment until that appointment is made.

Ridiculous. Can't believe how any club can sack their manager when they lose the biggest prize in European football on a lottery. All the more surprising when you consider that Grant apparently only got the job in the first place because he was mates with Roman.

It's tough at the top, and stupid too apparently.

To be fair though ... he does look like a toad.

I hope Gartside issues a hands off warning now.

What a ridiculous thing to do.

Chelsea are fast on-route to becoming the most hated club in the world I'd imagine. What a stupid, clueless c*nt of an owner they have.

Sack the best manager they've ever had, someone who brings character to the league, wins them trophies, has the universal respect of his entire team. Great move.

Bring in Grant, has none of that yet comes 2nd in the "best league in the world" and 2nd in the "best cup in the world". Sack him, he's shit.

Jesus, football is such a load of wank at times.

It all started with Shevchenko and an owner wanting to play with his toy, now they are rivalling Newcastle for stupidity.

Part of me agrees with this, another part of me says that with the money and players at Chelsea's disposal, pretty much anyone could take them to a runner up spot in the PL.

I sympathise with Grant, and he did a decent job. But i don't suppose it's much different to us sacking Megson if we'd gone down. A manager never popular with the fans, in the shadow of a previous succesful manager, never really had the track record and backed with money in January. Both did alright in parts and had some excellent results, but ultimately Megson succeeded in his objective, whereas Grant failed with his, and thats why the Ginger one is still in a job.

Of course if he doesn't get this one right Roman is going to look stupid, but it's his money, who's gonna argue? When you're haemoragging that much money, second really is no-where.

And his reason for would be what? The constant criticism? The constant reports telling him he's simply a stand in? Or all the death threats?

Personally I think one would be enough.

Who'd be stupid enough to want to manage Chelsea.

Apart from Allardyce.

Heh heh, long ball returns to Stamford Bridge  Meggo should apply - he was the only one to shut Anelka up! Poor Eeeyore, though - damned if you do, damned if you don't. Yet again, buying the best players, doesn't necessarily = best team.
Don't blame me! It's the percodan. If you ask me, that stuff rots your brain ... And now a word from our new sponsor ... Percodan, oh crap!

Maybe I'm just stupid (that's rhetorical) or just don't understand football management (so is that) but drop kicking Grant just doesn't make sense to me. The man had little experience in English football - if you can call Chelsea players English - was signed to a contract for a few years when taking over the position when the club was in danger of not making the Champion's League and hardly in the race for the Premier League title but managed to drag the team to within a whisker of both and then is sacked?

If I remember rightly he also didn't spend money in the January transfer period - though I'm open for correction on that - but whether that was by choice or direction I have no idea. As far as I can see the man got the rough end of the pineapple in that relationship. Undoubtedly he had a squad of very good football players with which to start his endeavours but surely the change around in fortunes of the club must have had something to do with his input? As I've said, I don't understand football managerial decisions and, as the years roll by, I think I'm learning that I know less and less.

As a neutral, Mr Grant, I salute you.
