Disneyland out for beer mat mum

This story gave me a chuckle this morning. I remember when it first broke. The local Aussies were initially outraged but the rest of the foreign community were extremely cynical about the Woman's story. In fact running pubs in Thailand I would say 70% of all the problems I have had with customers are Aussies yet they are maybe 5% of my customer base. Not slamming Aussies as I have many friends, but the incident seemed very typical. Anyway she got to sell her story and was going to take her kids to Disneyland except the U.S. refused a visa as she was a convicted felon.

Thats interesting. When I was in Thailand a few years ago those I spoke to who worked in the tourist industry said that the nationality that gave them the greatest problems/headaches were the Israelis.

Thats interesting. When I was in Thailand a few years ago those I spoke to who worked in the tourist industry said that the nationality that gave them the greatest problems/headaches were the Israelis.

Can't say I have ever had a single problem with an Israeli ever. Then again I do not have to deal with that many tourists. 99% of my business is with Thai's or Japanese and Foreigners who either live in Thailand or do extensive business here.

I only ever had one problem with a middle eastener. He had his feet up, and since we are in Thailand I asked him politely to please take his feet off the chair as it might be offensive to the Thai's. He started on about racism and culture. I then took a long look at his beer and asked him if he really wants me to respect his culture.

In general running pubs in Thailand is a breeze when it comes to violence. I think it has something to do with sexual frustration. There is no excuse for it in Thailand, and as a result people are much more relaxed and easy to deal with. I have only in my life called the police in to take away customers on 4 occasions in 7 years. 1 Canadian, 1 Scot, and 4 Aussies (2 occasions). One was a loon (Canadian), 1 a nutter (Scott, two months after returning home got put away for punching a cop I heard), and the 4 Aussies (two separate occasions) were refusing to pay their bill and calling all the staff whores etc etc. My pub is located in a fairly high end part of the city and a ways from the red light areas. Basically the abuse they dished out would have gotten them a fist through the skull in most any other country including their own. I have never had to hit a customer, but once I knocked out a drunken french guy by slamming him into the wall too hard. He had slapped a Dutch guy accross the face for some unknown reason. My staff is nearly entirely female and we have no bouncers.

Israeli's are mostly made up of backpackers and to the best of my knowledge hang out in the Guest House part of town.

There is a lot of ghetto mentality to bars in thailand though. English pubs, french bars etc etc. In the last few years there have been a number of Australian owned bars that have opened so most of them hang out there. I have always run places that cater to an international crowd. If I wanted to only meet Canadians I might as well have stayed home. Still that is the great thing about Thailand. You can be anyone you want to be, and live any lifestyle you want. Therefore there is something for everyone.

I know a great trick with a ping-pong ball too!

Incidentally someone I know received a C.V. to work in a primary school and listed one of her previous jobs as pole-dancing and 'doing tricks ON a bar', whatever that entails!
