BP?
Is this British company and by default probably British pension funds being shafted by the Yanks?
Should the UK Government withdraw our troops and support in Afghanistan on a rapid basis if the US continues to try and undermine this company?
Would the future of a US company be under threat if it was their problem?
Why do we not stand by our own interests for once? The Yanks sure as hell would and you could bet your ass the Germans and French would!
Should we invest in a Soviet replacement for Trident to really p*ss them off
Why is it always raining through summer?

If someone dumped a ton of shit in your garden pond, wouldn't you be angry? Sorry, but BP are the 'bad guys' here.Hoboh wrote:Is this British company and by default probably British pension funds being shafted by the Yanks?

Still, a few dead birds and fish, a marine ecosystem wrecked, a ton of livelihoods lost and monumental incompetance on BP's part doesn't matter, eh bonehead?

Errrr so BP are the only people ever to pollute the planet eh?ratbert wrote:If someone dumped a ton of shit in your garden pond, wouldn't you be angry? Sorry, but BP are the 'bad guys' here.Hoboh wrote:Is this British company and by default probably British pension funds being shafted by the Yanks?

Should we get free oil from Iraq because of the burning oil wells and let them have no income?
How about the soviets and their rotting nuke ships and subs about to someday make most of the Northern oceans glow more than Sellafield?
Ok a few Yanks have a new brand of suntan oil

Re: BP?
Ermm, assuming you accept we need oil, it aint BPs fault they have been forced to explore deeper and deeperratbert wrote:If someone dumped a ton of shit in your garden pond, wouldn't you be angry? Isnt the majority share holder in BP American or something ????
The rig that blew up was American owned, and leased to BP.
Run by an American crew.
Certified by American Authorities.
The fail safe mechanism was built in America (and failed)
The first device that was tried to cap the well was made in America (and failed)
So while BP is being screwed by the Yanks, it could just be to divert attention from the fact that the whole drilling operation was being done by Americans. (and failed).
If I am wrong then I will hold my hand up, but those are the facts as far as I am aware.

Re: BP?
Sorry Ratty, but as Caps says, that's what the Yanks want you to think, but there is a helluva lot of blame to be pointed America's way here.ratbert wrote:If someone dumped a ton of shit in your garden pond, wouldn't you be angry? Erm, I am the only one who thinks, when a MULTINATIONAL oil compamy, that'll be one owned by shareholders from a MULTItude of NATIONs feck* up, we should stop trying to point score, and, as much as I like you, this particularly goes out to you Mr Obama, accept the fact that this isn't Britain's fault any more than General Motors collapse was the fault of general folk, or JP Morgan going arse over elbow was the fault of people called John or Pierpont and you know, sort it out. I know you have midterms soon but please.... It's not any one country's fault. If it's anyone's fault, oh, and by the way, it is, it's the oil industry's fault.
Oh, and for the record CAPS, whilst you can try, somehow, enigmatically, to blame this on the 'environmentalists' I think you're wrong. I'll even tell you coz why. The environmentalists whether or not climate change exists, which it definately does, and whether or not it is man made, which is open to debate, are trying to make folk use resources as intelligently as possible. This is a good thing. If any company's response to this is to try to crack a nut with a nuclear bomb, and a straw, this is that company's fault. They, regardless of what country is in the name should, you know, sort out the fallout.

In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

I quite liked the new approach obama looked to bring ,but his attitude of jumping on the bandwagon for votes in this oil spill is repugnant ,the worst example of the usa claim culture that i have seen and the way he humilated the bp guys was out of order and embarrising all he was obviously bothered about was votes espically knowing someone else bp was gonna pay the bill he was laughing all the way to the bank all the unemployed on the beaches getting paid to clean up doin jack .
It was like the us had won on the lottery with a blank cheque this sort of blackmail of a multi national has never been seen before and you can gaurantee if it was a yank based company they would not have been so ripped in to with the current economic climate this is very bad news for britain and bp and obama has back stabbed like no other

I thought CAPS's argument wasn't so much over climate as about the need for BP to go deep-sea drilling, which he would (I suspect) claim they wouldn't have to if they were allowed to drill in, for instance, Alaska.Prufrock wrote: Oh, and for the record CAPS, whilst you can try, somehow, enigmatically, to blame this on the 'environmentalists' I think you're wrong.
