JOHAN Elmander has blasted former Wanderers boss Gary Megson for his heavy-handed style.

After two years of misery at the Reebok, the Sweden international is finally showing the kind of form that convinced the club to shell out a record £8.2million for him from Toulouse.

Just 10 goals in his first two seasons with the club saw him branded a flop – but under Owen Coyle’s, pictured, guidance, the 28-year-old now leads the Whites’ goalscoring charts with four in his first seven games.

Speaking in the build-up to tonight’s European Championship qualifier against Holland at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam, Elmander criticised the approach favoured by his former manager.

“It doesn’t help to stare and scream at me,” said the striker. “I got tired the more of it I heard.

“Coyle is a great coach, who I really enjoy working with.

“It’s fantastic and great that I can play my game. As soon as he came to the club I started to play well, even though the goals didn’t come right away.”

Way back when he first arrived at Bolton, it was against Saturday’s opponents Stoke that Elmander made a scoring debut.

But things have rarely been the same since, and the striker admits it is only now that he is feeling his natural instincts in front of goal return.

“I’m not thinking about things as much now,” he said. “It has been a long time since I felt that way.

“I probably had the self-confidence when I came to Bolton, so it disappeared somewhere along the way, but now I’ve found it again. I have known all along that I am able to play at the level I’m at and now.”

The $64,000 question right now for Wanderers fans is whether Elmander will reciprocate the faith shown in him by his manager, by sitting down to discuss a new deal in the near future.

But the Swede is currently rather reticent on that subject, with talks yet to commence.

“I have a year left on my contract and then we’ll see what happens then,” he added.

Elmander will play in Amsterdam with a special glove to protect his finger, following an operation to remove an infected nail.

The procedure caused him to miss a couple of training sessions but will not affect his chances of playing against the Dutch, or for Wanderers when he returns to Premier League action this weekend.

Let me get this right, what he's suggesting is that Megson wasn't well liked in his time here, and indeed his methods left a lot to be desired for a professional football coach?

Why are we only just hearing this now? I thought Megson left because he wanted to sort his garden out?
