Nicky Hunt
Poor lad

All he wanted was a nice car and a fit bird to bang. Bet he's down to his last millionBristol City manager Keith Millen says he will be trimming his squad over the summer, with full-back Nicky Hunt one player who looks set to be moved on.
"At the moment no one has come in for Hunt," Millen told BBC Radio Bristol.
"He's got a year's contract, so if no one comes in he'll have to look after himself, get fully fit - which he has done this year - and see what happens.

Re: Nicky Hunt
when i was in Bristol, they gave him more stick than our lot ever did! and im sure hes only made about 6 appearances!?
Re: Nicky Hunt
Did he get caught ball watching as much as Steinsson? No. Could he cross a ball better than Steinsson? Yes. Was he paid as much as Steinsson? Probably not.
For me, the lad gets too much stick. He wasn't great, he wasn't that bad.

Re: Nicky Hunt
Definitely wasn't that bad. He had a cracking cross on him, and he used to scare the opposition with just his face.

Re: Nicky Hunt
Far better player than Steinsson.
Hell of a cross and eye for a pass.

Re: Nicky Hunt
In our best spell this decade he was the one the opposition (& our own fans) targeted. That was a good team and he was a below average Prem player so it was probably only natural for them to do that.
Unfortunately my memories tend to focus on things like what Stuart Downing used to do to him twice a year, not clearing the ball so Bellion could bundle it in, being stood still while Rosicky equalised and cost us a rare win at Highbury etc. but then I am a miserable sod.
Considering we had Gardner on the left playing well and a good centre backs protected by a holding midfielder he was always going to be at fault more often than anyone else. We know Allardyce didn't like to spend money on full backs, preferring to keep Hunt so he could focus his budget elsewhere...
The fact that he's not getting a contract at Bristol City in what should be the prime of his career (27) probably tells us something...

Re: Nicky Hunt
Better player than Steinsson?! Jeez Louise. I liked him, despite the stick for getting paid loads (not his fault) he was a Bolton lad, a Bolton fan, playing for us. He wasn't terrible then, but he was never great, he'd be woeful now. Good luck to him though.

He's gone downhill....were ok for us for a while....
He obviously isn't as good as Steinsson, otherwise we wouldn't have bundled him out on a free.
Whether Steinsson is £3.5million better that I don't know. I prefer Ricketts.

Local lads always get more stick. He wasn't that bad, but he's gone to hell in a handcart. It happens.

Re: Nicky Hunt
Maybe the problem was that he wasn't initially a natural right back? Like someone said, Big Sam didn't like splashing out money on full backs, so it seemed like he liked to have make shift right backs and try and blend them in there.
Nicky Hunt, from my memory, was a decent center back for the reserves, then is was brought up to the main squad and got stuck at right back. Wasn't his first game against Man Utd away on the first game of the season? There must have been an injury somwhere for him to start that game.
The same kind of thing happened with Joey O'Brien. Played midfield for the reserves, but we were short of right backs so Sam stuck him there.

Re: Nicky Hunt
I thought his first game was Sheff U at home, in tandem with Dean Holden.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

It was. Deano's return from injury, and I think he scored too.Lord Kangana wrote:I thought his first game was Sheff U at home, in tandem with Dean Holden.

Yeah that's right, but then he didn't feature until 2 years later IIRC.

Re: Nicky Hunt
It was. I would have him back at the club as cover. He wouldn't be commanding silly money and we could give him a springboard back into the Premiership and it would be fairly easy to see him fitting back in at the club. He's not as bad as people made out, he was a step up from Anthony Barness thats for sure and we did well in the league with him in the squad.
I can't see us signing him but i'd welcome him back.

There was a year when he was excellent, got into the under 21's and looked a real star in the making.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Local lads always get more stick. He wasn't that bad, but he's gone to hell in a handcart. It happens.
After that it was downhill all the way.
Slowly at first, then gathering pace.
By the end he was every bit as bad as the crowd told him.
Can't see that GM would have the ability to turn around the career of someone in those circumstances -probably made it worse still

And I will always, always blame Phil Brown every bit as much as I blame the lad himself for that.bw@bw wrote:There was a year when he was excellent, got into the under 21's and looked a real star in the making.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Local lads always get more stick. It cant be that. Lee was always on the other wing tearing Barry Cowdrill apart when he played for the Ra-Ra's. Apart from that time in the play offs of course.Lord Kangana wrote:Bruce likes to blame Brownie for everything.
