Ngog emerges from Torres shadow

So says he 8)
David Ngog is ready to impress for new club Bolton - after spending three years in Fernando Torres's shadow.

The Frenchman joined Liverpool in 2008 but started just 21 league games, with 53 substitute appearances.

But he now hopes to establish himself as a Premier League regular after a £4m deadline day switch to the Reebok.

Ngog said: "When you're at a club like Liverpool you accept it. It made me stronger. You want to be close to the best and Fernando is one of the best."

The forward, 22, scored 19 goals in 94 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool after signing for £1.5m from Paris St Germain. But he joined a year after Torres, who left Anfield for Chelsea in January.

He says he tried to take the positives from training with the Spain international, 27, and hopes it will make him a better player now he's at Bolton.

Ngog added: "He [Torres] is one of the best strikers in the world and, when he was at Liverpool, he was consistent in scoring a lot of goals.

"You learn about a lot from a player like that. It was a good experience and I will try to produce here and show what I am capable of.

"I am at the age when I need to be on the pitch every week.

"I still need to work and prove myself but I had experience with Liverpool. I played some big games and played in the Champions League as well.

"I will try to use that experience to fit in this team."

Ngog turned down offers from a number of other clubs after being impressed by Bolton boss Owen Coyle.

He said: "I had options but Bolton was my first choice. I spoke with the manager and he had a good project for me."

What he didn't say was that the other clubs were QPR and West Ham... Pretty much a no-brainer to come here

:oyea: Let's give the boy a chance. I'll be honest and say, (like a few might on here); I didn't rate young Daniel Sturridge until he came to us.

I was over the moon when we got Sturridge. Mind you he was even better than i expected. It was that vela from arsenal I was dubious about. With Ngog we shall see. liverpool was built around Torres and Ngog was an afterthought. Coyle will not do that so If he has what it takes we shall find out soon. Feeling much better than when the rumour first sprung up.
