Warm weather training.

Post by Andy Waller » Tue Jul 09, 2013 12:58 pm

I was reading about the 1st team + associated hangers on going off to Spain for "warm weather training".

Considering we play most of our games throughout the British winter, what's the point?

It would be alot easier training when it's cold than hot IMO which is probably why they do it put the players through there paces so to speak

Because running about in the heat gets you lot fitter than running about in the relative cold.

It's not about acclimatising to anything. It's about shedding any excess holiday fat that (shouldn't, but may) have. Bonding and getting your fitness levels up

Although it's a moot point when the UK basks like this, cold weather makes your muscles tighter and prone to injuries. And as Boris notes it's harder work, in a good way. Nobody tells runners (or horses) not to train on the beach because they won't be running on sand come the big day. We can't move the season but we can avoid unnecessary injuries before it even starts. Freedman planned this getaway months ago, he shouldn't cancel it just because we're getting a bit of sun.

More importantly, Freedman has them all together (1st team and Development squad, pleasingly inclusive) so he can fully explain his ideals, aims and practices. Yes, he could whip out a flipchart at Euxton but this will be much more intense; as a student of Italian football he will be well aware of the ritiro – getting the team together in seclusion before an important game, even if it's at home, arguably especially if it's at home. Lots of English teams do it, and we're long past the days when it was an excuse to spend a fortnight on the lash in La Manga.

As it happens, BWFC have just tweeted an image of the chaps sweltering (see below). It may not be going up Rivi with a rock-filled rucksack but under Freedman they'll be getting worked hard, and smart.

Exactly DSB. Warm weather makes explosive and sprint type training much less of an injury risk and enables them to train more effectively. It's why sprinters tend to go warm weather training beofre the track season in the spring. Plus like Boris says, it's like a kind of resistance training that makes the body more efficient when it returns to a cooler climate.
Plus it just feels good and you never know what the weather will be like here. As it happens I'll be warm weather training in Breightmet later today but who could have predicted that!

Had to buy some new boots and trainers recently. The hardest part was finding black ones.

He must use safety pins to achieve it

I played what turned out to be 4-a-side on Sunday morning in the heat and can confirm it was bloody knackering.

Played for years in the same style boots. Addidas black, three thinner white stripes and a blue sole with moulded studs. Grand boots.

Those backpack things they've all got on? Are they something like Reebok Synthetic Rocksack ®?

Hoboh will be mortified.

Like a real-life version of the trainer-bra kit we had a few seasons ago !!

Mark Davies looks better than you'd expect.

... and, yes, Eagles, wtf !?!?

I've never seen anyone mince on a football pitch quite like David N'Gog.

You were in France while we had Jardel then ?

The sight of 25,000 fans first gawping and then pissing themselves was quite something.
