Not sure I’ll ever get over that throw-in techniqueDave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 5:57 pmAye, it's possible that Gordon benefited from more coaching for longer, but Greenidge looked historically hapless. That foul throw. Then again, Santos didn't look great early days, as in Prufrock's deathless description of his display at Colchester being the worst he'd seen at any level good enough to feature a referee.
It will be interesting to see where they end up - both this summer and "eventually". I would be surprised if Liam gets a third-tier offer. Morecambe, maybe?

Re: Released/Retained List 2022
I thought Liam Gordon was one of those players who struggled with 2020 - long way from home and no family or friends outside of the club up here, coupled with no socializing meant a struggle I think. Having said that I don’t think he’ll play many games at this level - league two/conference (one and the same now) is about right.
Greenidge wasn’t great! What game was that foul throw in? Might try to find it to remind myself how far we have come!

If memory serves there was a couple of foul throws, fairly early doors iirc...officer_dibble wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 6:50 pmI thought Liam Gordon was one of those players who struggled with 2020 - long way from home and no family or friends outside of the club up here, coupled with no socializing meant a struggle I think. Re: Released/Retained List 2022
Zero surprises then.
In the end it's not one any bookie would have taken bets on and I think they were destined to go.
The Tutte and Baps wording it interesting, but otherwise pretty standard.
Unlike some other clubs we've not clarified the position of the contracted players - which may or may not mean they are all staying. That'll be the next thing to keep an eye on. Whether we get any leaks from the other clubs involved about bids for our players (Bolton now being pretty leakproof).

Re: Released/Retained List 2022
Yeah, fair point. I suspect some clubs use the “still under contract” names for clarification, and perhaps to assuage fans who might worry about lack of numbers. Morecambe’s batch-listing is unusual these days. Transfers more likely to happen on the quiet, so as you say, let’s see if any whispers emerge - because I have a feeling there’s maybe three or four players falling in the wide spaces between “desperate to keep” and “actively seeking to eject”.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 10:22 pmUnlike some other clubs we've not clarified the position of the contracted players - which may or may not mean they are all staying. Morecambe's list is just Derek Adams being his usual, charming self.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 10:59 pmYeah, fair point. “These players are also, much to my chagrin, still somehow on the pay roll”

Would be nice if they all managed to play a part in relegating Morecambe next season and scream in his face like that dude from NewportGhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 11:02 pmMorecambe's list is just Derek Adams being his usual, charming self.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 10:59 pmYeah, fair point. Santos says he wants to stay and talks on a new contract are positive. I'll be thrilled if we can get him signed on for a decent amount of time. He's been an absolute beast this season and his physical attributes give us so many tactical options.

Yeah I was also very pleased to read that this morning. If we can bring in Iredale, Fossey (if we're confident he's not a perma-crock) and maybe another young CB, we'd be looking pretty good at the back for next season.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 6:26 amSantos says he wants to stay and talks on a new contract are positive. Re: Released/Retained List 2022
Ilesy is wondering this too. Well, to “help out with” the B team - which could be a playing role I suppose, if that was enough for them, with an eye to a coaching career.brommers95 wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 2:59 pmInteresting the wording of "Defender Alex Baptiste and midfielder Andrew Tutte have not had their playing contracts renewed, while full-back Liam Gordon and forward Nathan Delfouneso – who is finishing the season on loan at Bradford City – have been released."
To me that suggests Baps and Tutte are staying around in some sort of coaching capacity.

I wonder whether Santos will have a release clause? Team from a higher division at £3 million or whatever. Are they still a thing, or is it just accepted we’ll sell if it’s best for both parties?

I don't think either of them have done their badges yet, so working as player/coaches in the Bs whilst they do them would make a lot of sense.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 8:46 amIlesy is wondering this too. Baptiste has said he thinks he has another season of football in him. We need his squad place for an upgrade. He’s moving on, and best of luck to him.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 8:46 amIlesy is wondering this too. Not sure what Tutte has to offer - has he done coaching qualifications? Like you I was underwhelmed by Hird, albeit there has been an improvement in the defence since he came.

Re: Released/Retained List 2022
Maybe but I think I’d like an upgraded RCB too. We can see Iredale as an upgrade on Gordon plus a replacement/upgrade for Baptiste. I guess we still have Gethin and Aimson but I think I want one more boost.The_Gun wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 8:45 amYeah I was also very pleased to read that this morning. Re: Released/Retained List 2022
For clarity, I’m not talking about keeping them in the EFL-registered first team squad, but having them play alongside the promising youngsters in the Bs, teaching them on-pitch in-game, while developing their coaching and taking their badges etc. (Clearly there are also financial issues to consider too.)officer_dibble wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 8:48 amBaptiste has said he thinks he has another season of football in him. I trust Ghost’s insight that they’ve not yet taken their badges, which always makes me wonder - how does a player get to his mid-thirties (in Baps’ case) and suddenly realise he hasn’t taken them? Are footballers really in that much denial about the shortness of their career?

None ever mentioned AFAIK. Could be written into this one; if so, the price point would be an interesting discussion.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 8:47 amI wonder whether Santos will have a release clause? Re: Released/Retained List 2022
I'd strongly support us looking into getting Olowu and Martin (on loan from Norwich) from relegated Doncaster.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 8:50 amMaybe but I think I’d like an upgraded RCB too. Olowu is the only centre half who has had Bodvarsson in his pocket this season, which led to Bod playing off the fullbacks to get free. He's fast, strong, good one on one and his Arsenal education means he's capable of much better football than Donny played.
Martin's deal expires next summer and Norwich have been reluctant to offer him new terms thus far. Their relegation may change that, but if we want another option who can affect the final third (with Xav going) I'd suggest he'd be an excellent pick up.

Speculation of course but perhaps Baps doesn’t have designs on coaching? He may have other interests. I imagine he’s made a bit of money from the game and perhaps has investments or property plans when he retires?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 8:54 amFor clarity, I’m not talking about keeping them in the EFL-registered first team squad, but having them play alongside the promising youngsters in the Bs, teaching them on-pitch in-game, while developing their coaching and taking their badges etc. (Clearly there are also financial issues to consider too.)officer_dibble wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 8:48 amBaptiste has said he thinks he has another season of football in him.
