Russell Brand - Like or hate?
No substance behind the post in that there is no real reason I'm posting it other than I was just wondering how people felt!
I personally USED to hate him, then I actually listened to him and found him very very funny.
I know I'm not alone, friends of mine all hated him too...until they actually listened to his radio show or watched his stand up, then felt like fools for dismissing him because of how he looked.

Like you hate the Monkeys FD, so thats my appraisal on the guy. I could sum his act up as "Look at me, Look at me, look at me....keep looking at me, who told you you could stop looking at me..."
IMHO, of course

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Yup, I vehemently hated him until a mate who I very much respect said he was at a book signing and said "you'd really like him"...Zulus Thousand of em wrote:You've said it for me, FD. I couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about. Then I really listened to him and found him to be bloody funny.
"That c*nt? feck no"
"Seriously, just listen to a radio show"
I felt a prize nice person actually, judging someone like that before even giving them a chance.

He's this eccentric fella that started turning up on one or two things that I'd be watching/listening to that I found to be piss-funny and also to be a wonderful exponent of intelligent wit. Next, I find out that he's well known and really unpopular, thus making me feel somehow curiously uncomfortable about liking his stuff for reasons that I couldn't figure out. What is, or was it about him that people don't/didn't rate? I think that he's a great entertainer. What's wrong with that?
May the bridges I burn light your way

And have already done, years ago, all the things you think you just invented (and probably a few more besides)FD wrote:My wife and I both loved his book too.
Was rather alarmed/suprised when I saw my mum pick it up and read the first chapter (lotsa talk of masturbation) and laugh at it. Isn't it funny how we forget our parents are normal people sometimes.

Make your mind up Dax. One minute you said you enjoyed all his work and the next you said his book was diarrhoea.Daxter wrote:Think he's brilliant meself, and have enjoyed all of his work. Read his book, which is a wonderfully runny read, written in a unique, articulate and elloquent style. It's a nice story to see how far he's come now, given some of the stuff that went on in his earlier days.

People have raved about his radio show but I've never got around to listening to it. Watched one of his stand up dvds which i thought was funny, but cannot make my mind up yet. Will have to do a bit more 'research' (i.e. sit on my arse and watch more telly/listen to more radio/read his book).

In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.
