Kevin Smith
Just thought I'd start a thread for praise/criticism on Kevin Smith. I've recently been getting into his films and it has inspired me to start writing my own screenplay.
If you're not aware who he is, he writes, directs and acts. His most notable films are Clerks, Dogma, and Clerks 2. He is Silent Bob, out of the famous duo, Jay and Silent Bob.
What does anyone else think of him?

ADORE him.
If you like his films you should check out his "evening with..." DVDs. There are two so far, brilliant stuff.
Also, he does a (kinda) weekly podcast called "SModcast" where he and his producer (on all his films) Scott Mosier talk for 40-50 minutes (the special ones are double that). If you have iTunes go for em there (there are 63 so far) or if not go here www.quickstopentertainment.com
Really looking forward to "Zack and Miri make a Porno" his latest film, out very soon.
So yeah...guess you could call me a fan

Awesome.. I'll definitley be checking out those podcasts. I think he and Scott Mosier are hilarious, I love how he uses the same actors in all his films too, all friends from his childhood! Brian O'Halloran pops up at some points in all the films I've seen. As does Jason Mewes, Ben Afleck, Matt Damon (to some extent), Jeff Anderson, and Jason Lee.FD wrote:ADORE him.

Chasing Amy and Clerks are brilliant, the rest are puerile shite. Dogma is two hours worth of actors explaining the plot to each other, it's so bad! Mallrats is funny if you're aged 14-19 and the less said about Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Jersey Girl the better. Have I missed any?
I didn't see Clerks 2. From the trailer it looked like a waste of resources.

I agree that Chasing Amy is possibly one of his best, but I'd have to dissagree with the rest of your comment!Dr Hotdog wrote:Chasing Amy and Clerks are brilliant, the rest are puerile shite. Clerks 2 is definatley worth watching, it was always going to be tough following Clerks but I think it's better in so many ways. He didn't spend an overly large amount of money on it (in terms of films) and I think it helps. It's a simple film, but has some the most memorable moments ever. I think it's pretty cheap on amazon, and you should get it if you liked Clerks. Also, you'll get to see Jason Mewes act whilst sober! To be fair, there's not much difference, but meh!

That, right there, is possibly the best and most accurate film review I've ever read.Dr Hotdog wrote:Chasing Amy and Clerks are brilliant, the rest are puerile shite. Why does everyone think that Clerks is so much better than Clerks 2. Oooohhh it's in black and white. Oooohhh the jokes are more intelligent. NO, No they're not. Clerks 2 has a large bald man blowing a donkey, yes, but Clerks has a woman fu**ing a dead old guy.
I'd have to agree with you on JASBSB, but it still made me laugh at points!
I quite like it as well to be honest, though the actress who plays Bethany annoys the hell out of me.FD wrote:Don't understand the hate for Dogma...it's actually in my top 10 films of all time I think!
