Re: January transfer window...
Exactly! We should be happy that Newcastle has a wad of cash burning a hole in their pocket; I don't see anyone else offering a substantial sum for Elmo. And I doubt that he plans to sign with us this summer unless his wages are raised.Prufrock wrote:Yeah coz losing him for nowt in the summer and having no money to replace him would be better. Board will look at it thinking we're probably safe this year, get some money for him, use some of it in the summer for strengthening. Anything upwards of £5million given his contract situation and we should be ripping their hands off.

That sort of pre-supposes that he wants to go somewhere else...which we don't actually know.Prufrock wrote:Yeah coz losing him for nowt in the summer and having no money to replace him would be better. Where's Klasnic in all this?
We don't have 2 strikers we have 3.
Gettin shut of Elmander and replacing him with Sturridge could be good. Its not gonna happen though is it.
We may sign Sturridge but Elmander will be here to run his contract down.

Where's Klasnic? I was asking that a lot during the York game, recently...

were any offers for elmander to come in i would love it if owen placed a buy out clause in sturridge's contract once his loan deal is over. could always use some of the holy grail, gary cahill money.

Is there a scoop we can give them?

Re: January transfer window...
Striking is about partnerships. A young striker struggling to score in the chelsea 1st team. How did that happen?Answers on a postcard to
The Bleeding Obvious
Never get a game
Davies and elmo aren't working as a pair, they are static and never near enough to take the knock downs from one another. Having someone pacy and keen alongside Davies could be ideal. It's the old fashioned little and large pairing rather like pool will have with suarez and carroll except 58 million quid cheaper.
The good thing about sturridge is he's fit enough to play for 90 mins and doesn't have a court case to deal with oh and he has pace.
For me it's a better option than our current pairing or the potential SWP or Vela options so frankly in wanderers fan terms I'd be ever so slightly ecstatic.
We can't afford to waste money in silly deals at present. maybe some elmo cash (and getting him off wage bill) will allow a second decent loan to come in.

Would it feck!Ianmooreslovechild wrote:6 mil for elmo in the circumstances would be fine.
We're a tiny little squad with 3 able bodied strikers (just) and people want to let one go before summer?

Re: January transfer window...
You could take £6m and limp through to summer and finish 17th.
I sadly think would be more likely we'd sell for £3m with the same principles and folk will be even more frustrated.
Think that's unlikely? Stephen Pienaar to Spuds went for £3m too. Same deal, end of season contract up. £6m not gonna happen

No idea. Adam Bogdan on a unicycle for all I care.Puskas wrote:For those of you revving your engines, wanting to drive Elmander to Newcastle - who do you suggest we should play up front for the rest of the season?
Just curious....
But £6mil for a guy who is leaving in 4 months is a no brainer. We need that money to replace him.

Re: January transfer window...
True mate....in any other circumstances Piennar is far better than being worth 3 million, you take what you can get if theres no way the player will stay in 5 months time.
Perversely when under a longer contract, a player like Carroll is apprently worth 35m in January

When did it become know that Elmander is leaving in the summer anyway?
Still think the most likely, and best option for us, is that he'll sign a new deal.

Because he'd be a bit of a knob to continue playing for us after his contract has run out.Tombwfc wrote:When did it become know that Elmander is leaving in the summer anyway?
Which is what I also think will happen. But if the Toon were daft enough to offer £6mil we should rip their fecking hands off.Still think the most likely, and best option for us, is that he'll sign a new deal.
