Re: Tennis, anyone.....?
My interest in Tennis doesn't usually extend beyond Wimbledon (although Agassi's autobiography was a great read) but what really gets my goat is the All England club. Sometime in the 1980s I read an article about how many millions they earn from Wimbledon each year that they invest back into the British game.
We live in an age where, rightly, public bodies are held to account on performance & value for money. Somebody in UK Tennis is on one hell of a gravy train for raking in loads and producing practically eff all in the last 30 years.

Federer two sets down now.
Brilliant nerve from Benneteau in the tie-break.
I do feel a little awkward cheering on a CESM though

Why is there no option up there which says "Never, never, never" in an Ian Paisley type way ?
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Nadal fans are, for the most part, horrendous. I regard them with the same disdain I do DMB fans actually.
Having said that, the Federer fans on Centre Court were terrible today. Typical glory-hunters, whatever happened to the tradition of supporting the underdog? Then again, most people who go to Wimbledon actually don't know the first thing about tennis.
Also amuses me when people don't get behind Murray because he made a joke about not supporting England in some tournament. Still our best men's player since Fred Perry.

He's actually in quite a tough quarter to begin with, it's full of people he could quite easily lose to (Cilic, Del Potro, Ferrer). Granted, on grass, he's better than them, but still it's not a given. Can't see Baghdatis beating him again though.Prufrock wrote:Well, this could be interesting. How will Murray manage to f*ck up getting to the final now?! If we are ever going to see him get there, this year is now surely it?

Great match that tonight. The added suspense of the 11pm curfew was brilliant it in the last hour.

Yes, it was a good day to take Crayons Snr for his first visit - a full 10 hours of entertainment on Centre Court.CrazyHorse wrote:Great match that tonight. The added suspense of the 11pm curfew was brilliant it in the last hour.
To be fair to Murray, there's a reason he's ranked so much higher than Bagdhatis and that is that he is lot more consistent and makes far fewer poor decisions.
Having said that, I really don't fancy him to do it this year. I've seen Ferrer play three times now after Saturday and he's never lost - he looks deceptively unremarkable but is very solid and has a good eye for reading and returning serves. I think Murray will probably come through a fairly evenly matched contest with Cilic today (Cilic might be feeling it in his legs now after going all the way at Queen's last week and then the second longest match ever on Saturday), but don't fancy him against Ferrer after that.

To be honest MWCIEC I think Ferrer will do well to get past Tsonga.

Tsonga can beat anyone on his day on grass, but Ferrer wouldn't meet him until after Murray anyway.Verbal wrote:To be honest MWCIEC I think Ferrer will do well to get past Tsonga.

Not sure. Think that could be a tight five-setter personally (as opposed to those one-sided five-setters yar yar...), and i can't really call it.
