Well a newly formed party in Northern Ireland has committed political suicide just before their first election, NI21 changed its designation from Unionist to 'Other.'
And yes, political parties here still designate themselves as Unionist, Nationalist or Other...

Surely those opposed to Unionist or Nationalist parties will vote for Other? They could win by a landslide!

If one were cynical about Europeans, like I am, one might wonder whether he was trying to sell copies. But then, as a committed Europhile, I'm sure you'll see it for what it is.Hoboh wrote:wrote Philippe Legrain, the author of a recent book on the crisis, last week.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

this kind of thing is a regular occurrence - the bulldozing not only of homes - but of orchards - often ancient olive groves - just (it sometimes seems) out of pure spite..
homes can be rebuilt - and often are - and that's tragic enough - but it takes decades to re-establish olive groves and orchards...

You may, for some strange reason, get the impression I am a full on committed UKIP voter, I’m not.Lord Kangana wrote:If one were cynical about Europeans, like I am, one might wonder whether he was trying to sell copies. I do not like the idea of the UK swallowed up by a huge entity over which we will have little influence, if you like membership of the EU will be similar to the influence the North West currently has over the London government, none.
The European elitists need pulling down a peg or three from their grand ideas and the only way to do this is ditch the usual political, nest feathering, suspects and kick them where it hurts, UKIP.
A common trading partnership is one thing, a Federal European super state with all the underlying tensions between nations is quite another and should be resisted at all cost.
There is, nor ever will be a one size fits all!

Re: The Politics Thread
Tough choices in the North West... Green probably... But the Socialist Equality Party has eight candidates and I've not had chance to vote for Trotsky for a long time...
I live in a safe Tory ward, but they have an even more despicable candidate than usual who has spent his time campaigning on an anti-foreigner ticket (ie something that no local councillor can do anything about but clearly he thinks it a winner to play in the sewer). So it has to be Labour, if only to reduce his majority by three.

He votes for WHO!
Re: The Politics Thread
another complexity in this euro election malarky is what we are actually voting for and how much influebce that will gain the UK... a UKIP vote will gain us practically no influence - a labour vote - probably the greatest influence... reason being that at the european level the national parties ally themselves into euro-parties and euro-coalitions..
labour are in the S&D party
tories are in the ECR party
UKIP are mostly in the EFD party
the greens are in the Greens/EFA (with plaid and the SNP)
the BNP sit in a corner on their own, dribbling
the S&D could become the largest party in europe tomorrow - and so a labour vote would (arguably) give us the most influence in Europe.. the tories and UKIP are just a fringe sideshow - electing a few more of them will have virtually no impact on our influence at all...

Lol! No, I mistakenly expected all three of us - me, wife, daughter - to vote the same way in the local election. In fact daughter voted with her conscience in both elections - Green. I wouldn't be surprised if my wife did the same.bobo the clown wrote:You vote three times ???William the White wrote:Tough choices in the North West... Green probably...
