Re: COVID-19/20 season

This was issued earlier today. A very long-winded way of saying nothing. An open letter to EFL supporters from EFL Chair, Rick Parry. Dear supporter, The COVID-19 pandemic has, quite clearly, brought about challenges which extend beyond the game we all love, and led to an unprecedented and testing s...

Re: COVID-19/20 season

6 June mooted as a possible date for the season to resume. Completing the outstanding games, including the play-offs (spoiler: we miss out), within 56 days takes us to 31 July.

I note that according to DSb, a man I don't believe is given to deliberately publishing fake news, we have six players contracted beyond June 2020.

We'll smash the Horwich & District 5-a-side league next season.

Re: COVID-19/20 season

The only reason we will play games is to avoid a points deduction. There’s feck all point renewing any contracts to complete this season...will be the kids again if it goes beyond June. Limit losses. League aren’t going to allow that. They want the integrity preserved. Andy Holt has nailed it. Will...

Bearing in mind we’re down anyway and playing behind closed doors will cost us money, why bother?

EFL say the remainder of the season, including play offs, must be completed within 56 days of them saying "Go!". But, no indication of when that might be.

Spoiler alert, we are Bolton we still lost 😂 We've just been knocked out of the FIFA thing. Lost 4-1 to Standard Liege. Harry Brockbank was on the controls. https://m.twitch.tv/shadoowfifa/profile Against a professional Fifa player though. Sorry. You mention there "a professional Fifa player". Some...

Going back to my Roots - Southend (A), 21/03/20, 3:00pm

In a parallel universe, I'm tucking into a full English before meeting Enoch at Liverpool Street station for a day out at the seaside. We'll sink a couple of pre-match pints in a pub opposite The Kursaal. My round as usual. Arrive at Roots Hall 5 minutes after kick off, but in time to see Politic vo...

Re: COVID-19/20 season

Johnson says we can "turn the tide" (whatever that might mean) in 12 weeks, but only if everyone follows the guidance. A very optimistic view would be that normality begins to return in mid-June. I think that's highly unlikely. Like you, DSB, I suspect 20/21 might well be half a season - ie teams pl...

Re: COVID-19/20 season

EFL is providing £50m, which seems to be a combination of advance payment of money due at the end of the season and interest free loans.

Cancel the season.
Cancel relegation.
Cancel the points deduction.
Cancel Accrington away.
Cancel Hill.

Easy.

How's Oxford away looking after tonight? Still possible, I think, but it may depend on us winning every game (to get to 41pts) and every single team above us losing every remaining game. Except AFC Wombles v Tranmere on Sat 21 Mar, where we would "need" a draw (but I'm tempted to go along and suppo...
