Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
Evatt on McClean’s claims Bolton wanted him but he didn’t want to join:
“I heard the quotes and I find it very amusing. If that is the case then he needs to communicate with his agent, because he didn’t stop ringing me for three weeks after I’d told him no.
“That’s the nature of the beast, it is what it is. We read what he had to say, we smiled and laughed, and maybe there’s a communication issue with the agent because after I’d told him no, he carried on ringing. Obviously, Bolton can’t be too bad to play for.
“We were never interested in James McClean. It was his agent trying to get him to us and whether they have used us to try and get a better deal out of Wigan, I don’t know. That is sometimes the case.
“To come out and make a statement like that… It is false. Completely false. His agent was ringing my phone off the hook.”

Not arsed really…couple of club media types trying to stoke some big coverage for Tuesday…we didn’t need another winger that much is obvious.

Substituted today after 28 minutes as Luton, 2-0 down at home to Birmingham, switched to a back four (Kioso was the right-sided centre-back). Didn’t work - they lost 5-0.

Bakayoko injury not good out for at least 6 weeks. So I think we need to be active in transfer market for another attacking player who can play out wide or upfront. Definitely. Shame we’ve lost Amaechi and Baka for long spells.

Yeah, that's a blow, and has to be planned around carefully.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 9:13 amBakayoko injury not good out for at least 6 weeks. The gut reaction is to push Comley and Crawford nearer the door to make wage space and push for a game-changing forward signing, but they cost a lot of money (wages if not fee, be that a transfer or loan fee).
I think it may be more prudent to target a loanee forward (young or old) who's on the fringes of a Champo club, maybe even only until January to start with. Gives him a chance to impress, us cover for a while until Bakayoko and Amaechi are back, and if it all goes well maybe we make a decision in January.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
With the longer-than-expected injury to Bakayoko leaves us light up top, I wondered whether Evatt's analyst Chris Markham might again be able to suggest someone from his time at Huddersfield, as with Elias Kachunga. I'm not being daft and suggesting we sign a Joe Lolley, but players who have done a job at a higher level but are available and possibly willing to step down to join their old mate's latest exciting new adventure.
COLLIN QUANER signed for Huddersfield on 20 Jan 2017 - a fortnight after Markham’s impending departure to the FA was announced, but it’s a fair bet the analyst was involved. A 6ft 3in centre-forward who turned 30 in summer, Quaner was very far from prolific but was popular with the fans and more importantly the manager, David Wagner picking him 23 times as the Terriers won an unlikely promotion to the top flight.
Clearly not Premier League quality, he was loaned to second-tier Ipswich (four goals and four assists in 16 games for a team hurtling to relegation) and, when his contract ran out, joined St Johnstone last season. He’s not a goalscorer and he’s not played much in the last two seasons, but he is at least free and thus presumably wouldn’t turn down a short-term contract.
RAJIV VAN LA PARRA was presumably another Markham signing. The Dutch Surinamese winger – a half-brother of Gini Wijnaldum and cousin of Royston Drenthe – signed on loan from Wolves in March 2016 and permanently that summer, playing 40 league games in the promotion season and 33 in the ensuing Prem campaign.
Falling out of favour after relegation (and Wagner’s departure), he moved to Red Star Belgrade and, last season, Spanish second-tierers Logrones. Currently unattached, turned 30 in summer, can play on either wing, and like Quaner could be a good sub.
NAKHI WELLS is unwanted at Bristol City. Markham will certainly have run the numbers on a forward who joined Huddersfield in January 2014 for a then club record fee after excelling for Bradford, where he scored 18 in 72 fourth-tier games then 14 in 19 third-tier.
He repaid the bills with 45 in 144 second-tier games before signing for Burnley, which didn’t work; loaned out twice to QPR (total 20 in 66 second-tier games), he was bought by Bristol City. Reached double figures last season but recent managers Dean Holden and Nigel Pearson have both sidelined him, first to the wide positions and then out of the team. He turned 31 in summer and Bristol City would prefer to sell (he has a contract to summer 2023) but if they get no takers, a (short?) loan back up north might suit all parties.
One last one. Attacking midfielder JACK PAYNE (26) signed for Huddersfield in summer 2016 after being third-tier Southend’s player of the season for scoring 9 in 32. He played 23 times in the Terriers’ promotion season but was then loaned out to three third-tiers clubs (Oxford, Blackburn, Bradford) before moving to Lincoln and then, last summer, Swindon.
His contract has a relegation escape clause (on a freebie), and although he’s said he’s happy to stay, what if his old mate Markham came calling for an exciting project in a higher division… however, you imagine he’d have been considered in summer, and as noted elsewhere we’re far from light in the midfield triangle, whichever way Evatt points it.

Was Van la Parra the one who Lennon tried to sign for us before finding out we had no money?

Nakhi Wells would be perfect imo. Id be surprised though if he doesnt get picked up by someone on a 1 or 2 year deal.

Nakhi Wells is free?? Blimey. He'd be a top drawer recruit. Pace to burn.Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 10:05 pmNakhi Wells would be perfect imo. Id be surprised though if he doesnt get picked up by someone on a 1 or 2 year deal.

Nakhi Wells is not free. Bristol City want shut though. Likely to get bought/borrowed by a champo club but worth a thought.truewhite15 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 22, 2021 10:17 pmNakhi Wells is free?? Blimey. Would Bristol loan to a rival? Sell maybe…and we are now a top level league one club so should be pretty attractive for loans from the champo now?

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
Probably chew our right arms off for Nahki Wells. The only issue I can see (beyond its probably out of our reach in terms of price and availability and level) is he's a striker who plays through the middle I can't imagine him being effective in our wide areas. Which means you're playing one of him or Doyle and whilst its great to have options, Baka shows that a player who can impact out wide and up front means you can improve the side at the same time. He also is a different option to Doyle so you can change games or tactics as needed.
I like Isgrove but I think a good loanee in could improve on him there and if that player can play up top too you are stronger all round.
Wells I feel could cause a selection headache with Doyle and Wells being very similar in attributes (Wells adds pace but probably doesn't have the same work rate of ED) and the way we'd set up with them. And both would expect to play. That isn't necessarily a bad thing but arguably creates a bit of redundancy.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
The last goal i saw Wells score was against us at Loftus Road. He cut in from the right wing and sent one into the bottom corner. Doesnt make him a winger obviously but he's got all the attributes to be a good wide forward. I suspect youre right on the cost being too steep and us probably being at a level lower than he wishes to play.

Re: Summer 2021 Transfer Thread.
Far as I can tell in over 350 appearances tracked by Transfermarkt he's played as a central striker in all but 28 of them. Which to me at 31 suggests he's probably not going to play out wide regularly for us often. He's always to me been an 'on the shoulder' type of centre forward.Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 1:32 pmThe last goal i saw Wells score was against us at Loftus Road. As long as Doyle keeps scoring I wouldn't consider leaving him out. The rest is immaterial...BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 1:26 pm

Yeah I mean Wells has a great goalscoring record and at a higher level. My point is if you had two players like that one will be unhappy.TANGODANCER wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 1:37 pmAs long as Doyle keeps scoring I wouldn't consider leaving him out. This should be Delf, but sadly he's not looking like offering anything. Can see him out on loan either now or January to see out his contract.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Mon Aug 23, 2021 1:26 pmProbably chew our right arms off for Nahki Wells.
