nahhh - I think it was widely reported he he's french and so could start playing as soon as the contracts were signed...m_taylor wrote:Playing in the Stu-s-a would Le Toux need all the visa/permits that took Ream weeks to get round? Zaha would be a brilliant addition maybe a bit hit and miss but already ahead of Eagles IMO.
Miyachi and Iturbe loans if they don't come off nothing lost but if they benefit us then perfect.
If we sign at least 3 out of those 4 including Ream would be an amazing window.

I'm not going to slate them until the window closes. We do seem to move slowly.
We do seem to wait for answers rather than make things happen.
But with two days left we just have to hope one or two things turn up.
can you tease that one out for us a bit?? how do you "make things happen" when you don't have piles of the stuff that talks??
But we waited over a week for an answer from Spurs and Dos Santos. It never came.
We're now waiting for an answer from Palace on a bid that I expect will be rejected.
As an example, when Newcastle signed Nolan, they had a list of midfield players. They rang Gartside up said, there is 4M on the table, if we don't hear back from you in 2 hours we will move onto the next one on the list.
Now I'm not suggesting we do anything quite that drastic. But we've known we were going to have around 7/8M to play with for a while. We've not had anything lined up. I know its not easy, but I do think we are acting slowly in a difficult market.
Getting young players who will make an impact now is extra tricky like, and I understand why thats what we're trying to do.
Just frustrating that we seem to be prepared to hang around for long periods waiting on "no's".

so - you're not suggesting any way at all we can "make things happen" - other than strop off if a player/club doesn't accept our first offer and go chase another one...BWFC_Insane wrote:Its hard.thebish wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:Who knows? wouldn't that just mean we ended up giving up on all our top targets right at the start of the window (because they laughed at our ultimatum-from-a-position-of-weakness) and ended up signing our d-list players - the ones desperate enough to accept the first offer they hear?

You know who you want.
You also know what you need (or you damn well should).
I'd argue that when you are mid table you can well afford to chase only your "top targets" and if you can't get them then say "well we tried".
When you're in our position you need to get a few in to help, even if the "ideal" ones aren't playing ball.
I'm not going to slate the club for failing to do deals, as clearly this market in January is hard to negotiate. But when you've sold your best asset you do expect a few more in than we've done so far. Taylor and Steinsson as examples when we sold Anelka, came in very quickly, and just about made an impact sufficient to keep us up...
But we just have to hope for the best. We're good enough to stay up as it is, but clearly reliant on not picking up injuries to our wide players, our midfield trio or NGog....

Ah we really after 3 wingers? Is it not that we're after 1, but if it doesn;t come off then it'll be the other, and if that doesn't come off, it'll be the other etc...

How do you know about the terms of Newcastle's Nolan bid? How do you know how BWFC go about their transfer business. I'm eager to hear

When we sold Nolan I asked Gartside why we'd sold Nolan so near to the end of the window. That was what he said, the deal was too good to turn down and we had to make an instant decision!boltonboris wrote:How do you know any of this?BWFC_Insane wrote:

Well, I might be a bit critical, but not the whole PT "the club lacks ambition, never intended to sign anyone, greedy Gartside" style nonsense.thebish wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote: I'm not going to slate the club for failing to do deals, as clearly this market in January is hard to negotiate.

I just think we're a bit slow, having sold our biggest asset, to make sure we get what we need in. So a bit of mild criticism more than anything else!
We obviously are trying to get Zaha, tried for GDS and another expensive buy according to Nixon, that hasn't as yet been named, but seemingly won't happen. We're trying.
I just wonder what the backup plan is should none of these materialise? And question whether we've been a bit slow to move on...

Hopefully we'll spunk all the money we haven't got on an overpriced overrated no-name late twenties striker on a fat contract with no prospect of any of the money being recouped through sale. For some reason then you'll be happy.

If he was good enough to help keep us up and make an impact then yeah....Lord Kangana wrote:Hopefully we'll spunk all the money we haven't got on an overpriced overrated no-name late twenties striker on a fat contract with no prospect of any of the money being recouped through sale. Its very current history when we're carrying a debt the IMF would struggle to pay off.

We've been carrying a large debt since Colin Todd spent a fortune (in real terms) and still took us down. And that was bank debt.Lord Kangana wrote:Its very current history when we're carrying a debt the IMF would struggle to pay off.
We're trying to stay up, and we have the Cahill money and the 50K a week he was on to play with. Thats all that should matter to any fan now, not what happened 3 years ago.
