The season only ended a week ago Bill !William the White wrote:Wish they'd get on with it then... Regarding the suggestion that these can't exist due to employment laws well, that's horse shit.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

IF this clause exists, IF, then we aren't getting a penny more than the £17m or whatever it is. Those who think we will are getting told to wise up and live in the real world by ME!

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Are you saying that if a player has a buyout clause of 17m, and another club offers 17m exactly neither the club nor Cahill has anything to say about it. Sounds a bit simplistic to me.
Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
I don't think so, but if I were mad, I wouldn't be of sound mind and body to be able to say that with any certainty.bobo the clown wrote:Are you fecking mad ???Choppers wrote:Disagree completely.William the White wrote:Upson is damaged goods... OC won't go there
Imho, if Cahill goes, Upson will be the first name on Coyle's list to replace him.
For the record, I wouldn't want Upson here, I'm saying that I think Coyle would see him as a top target. English, recently relegated thus cheap.

that's a very fair point, so as an outside view let me confirm that you are, I'm afraid. Upson would want a wage twice that of anyone else we employ, he would not come North unless to a "top" club ... Oh, & he's shite !
Read KUMB. Even that centre of delusion which is Upton Park acceppt this. He's a bottler, he hidesn he makes huge blunders, he has no heart and he's up himself. .... & these are comments from Wet Spam fans !

Cahill would, obviously, but we wouldn't. To put it simply, if he has a buy out clause of £17million, then we have to accept any offer on or above that. So if Arsenal offer £16million, United offer £17million, Liverpool offer £17million, and City offer £117million, then we can turn down Arsenal's bid, but have to accept the offers of United, City and Liverpool, it would then be up to Cahill to choose. Obviously then, no-one in their right mind is going to offer a penny more than £17million.
However, the fact Coyle himself has mentioned £20-odd million suggests there is no (longer) a minimum fee clause.

IF there is a clause
IF a club agrees to match the clause then we have to tell the player the release has been activated and if he decides he wants to leave, he leaves
IF the clause is 17 million then I see absolutely no way we can get more than 17
Dunno if you think that's simplistic or not, but that's the way it is
No clause, then its a free market but the player could still force our hand
If Bingobongo FC from Bongobingo offer 250 million and City offer 20 million (for example), we'd be forced by the player into accepting the lower offer

And if he wants to play for Bingobongo FC?

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Anyway, what people are overlooking here is, clause or no clause, the richest club in this country have owners who don't give a shit if they overspend by a few bob. So City will offer over the odds, and pay wages over the odds, because they are in a cock measuring contest that they want to win. So of course they'll offer more than the others, because they ain't counting the pennies. And they can't be arsed losing when money means f*ck all to them.
We need City involved, because any clause becomes irrelevant by their presence.

Still reckon you're wrong
City will do no more than match the clause

They'll beat the clause if it exists, because they won't be arsed getting involved in an auction. Money doesn't matter to them. The odd 3 or 4 million to guarantee they're first in the queue for everything is right up their street. Remember, he will be free to speak to everyone who matches it or above. They'll want us pushing for him to go to City as much as they'll be chucking money at him.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
How are people not getting this? There will be no auction in terms of transfer fee. If City turn up tomorrow, and offer £40million, we will accept it obviously. However imagine Cahill is hoping Arsenal will come in for him so he drags his feet on terms. If a week later Arsenal offer £17 million, we still have to accept their bid. City wont offer more than £17million, because it doesn't buy them anything else. We still have to accept all offers at or above £17million.

17m accepted all round. But City could quite easily offer double whatever Arsenal/Spurs etc. offer him.
Not that I think any of this matters, City will be the only club who even considers going up past 15M.
Thank feck they're interested.
