Snog, Marry, Avoid: Summer 2023 Transfer Window

I have no idea what he'd cost. But he looks the business to me. 6 figures and I'd be happy. His set piece delivery is incredible as well.
I worry about Eoin's use of the ball at centre back, but if he going to play every week with Rico that's an area we have to improve in for goals.

I agree. There has to be an upper limit on any outlay for any player and Moxon's price needs to reflect his length of contract and relative inexperience.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 9:32 pmI think Moxon looks a decent player but I’d be worried about spending serious money on a lad who hasn’t played about league two.
It would be a big risk at a point where I personally think we need more sure things. People we know are good for the job.
I'm fairly convinced he'd be a terrific addition, but I don't think we should get anywhere close to 7 figures. Nor should we be paying him more than someone like Dempsey.
He'd help us get promoted, but we don't need him to go up.
At 500k I'd be very keen. Above that I think we'd need to be very sure of our research on him.

Toal is a good young player, but he presents problems in Evatt's system.
A goalkeeper who plays well outside his box would help. A player *like* Moxon in midfield would also. If he scored more goals, that'd be a huge benefit in his favour. 3 goals this season is a good start there and he's clearly capable of more.
Players at this level will usually have minuses as well as pluses, but you can offset them. Toal is also very young for a centre back, so he has time to work on his weaknesses.
If we can sort out the network of passing options around him he'll be less transitional and offer better control.

I think, on balance, I'd probably prefer some folks valuing the house I was selling rather than the one I was trying to buy!

We dropped 600k on Adeboyejo before the bond. He'd have cost more if not for his release clause.
The fees we have spent on players like Morley, Charles and Dempsey have only been as low as they were because we bought in January when their contracts we expiring.
I don't think the additional cash is there to make us do incredible things in the market, it's just to let Evatt buy in the summer as opposed to waiting until January to pick up the scraps.
Evatt's probably a bit sick of seeing competitors get a 6 month head start on him.

Not for us, he wouldn't. Well, I sincerely doubt we'd have gone much higher.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 1:03 pmWe dropped 600k on Adeboyejo before the bond. He'd have cost more if not for his release clause.

It could just as easily be viewed as Evatt getting in 6 months early on competitors by buying in January rather than July.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 1:03 pmEvatt's probably a bit sick of seeing competitors get a 6 month head start on him.

That certainly seems to have been the plan with Demps, Morley, Dion?, maybe others. Also helps the acclimatisation - all those players have notably kicked on in their first full seasons, which is credit to the coachesAbdoulaye's Twin wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 1:44 pmIt could just as easily be viewed as Evatt getting in 6 months early on competitors by buying in January rather than July.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 1:03 pmEvatt's probably a bit sick of seeing competitors get a 6 month head start on him.

I don't think we could have gone much higher, but given the speed with which we moved once we realised he was available we were clearly very happy with the price.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 1:32 pmNot for us, he wouldn't. Well, I sincerely doubt we'd have gone much higher.

We've viewed January as the best balance for us. Able to avoid the free transfer bearpit, but not having the cost of summer fees. So you don't spend as much on fees and also avoid competing on wages and bonuses.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 1:44 pmIt could just as easily be viewed as Evatt getting in 6 months early on competitors by buying in January rather than July.
It's fine, but obviously Evatt wants to be able to do more in the summer or there'd be no need for the money.
When we get players we tend to make a point of saying they are "long term targets" and a couple of times Evatt has said we couldn't get there financially in previous windows.
Realistically if you're looking at a narrow sliver of players in that kind of "value" bracket your work is a lot more difficult.

Don't disagree, just pointing out that he could just as easily be working 6 months ahead rather than behind. Ultimately he has to decide at what point you stop waiting for ideal and get on with getting good enough. It didn't work last summer and we won't know how January pans out until later in the year.GhostoftheBok wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 2:51 pmWe've viewed January as the best balance for us. Well, Wednesday are up. Barnsley become less of a challenge for signing players - although they will be difficult to finish above next year.

Had to chuckle very loudly that Barnsley lost in the last minute of injury time in extra time

Having watched the match I truly believe that neither of those two teams are better than us.
Connell should have scored for Barnsley though.

Sheff Weds probably deserved to go up over the season and the Posh comeback...
To your point KP, fine margins and a bit of "on the day" individual class, probably the biggest difference, but we played both those 7 times over the season and only won 1, with the oppo down to 10...

Yep fair point but watching them today neither impressed me greatly. Having said that Barnsley GK was fantastic

We know what we need to beat now.
The aim should be top spot and 100 points.
A lot of work to do.
It won't be an easy division, it almost never is.
