Angela Eagle seems to have one nostril that is twice the size of the other... it's disturbing! These are the crucial issues...

Remember when Clegg's "honest approach" to the 2010 election debates and campaigning was going to launch a political revolution and have the Lid Dems as a credible and geneuine opposition to the main two?KeyserSoze wrote:Times like this you yearn for Nick Clegg.

Ah them were the days. I do wonder how history will judge the Lib Dem part of the coalition in the years to come.BWFC_Insane wrote:Remember when Clegg's "honest approach" to the 2010 election debates and campaigning was going to launch a political revolution and have the Lid Dems as a credible and geneuine opposition to the main two?KeyserSoze wrote:Times like this you yearn for Nick Clegg.
As an aside, I don't know if it's just me getting older and more 'hell in a handcart'-esque, but do older readers remember politics being as polarized and toxic as this before? Maybe it always has been something similar but at the moment it just seems completely rancid. People sending death threats, bricking constituency buildings...an MP got murdered in the street less than a month ago, ffs. And behind that you've got every bell on social media saying stupid things...i don't know. Just feels a reet shit time.

I think it has just become emptier and shallower... which is what people seem to want.

Likely it's never been much different, just never had today's level of public access.KeyserSoze wrote:behind that you've got every bell on social media saying stupid things...

Yes. Social media is why people get annoyed by the "youth whinging". They always complained but it is just before unless you hung around politically active young people you'd never hear it. Now it is plastered all over Facebook and Twitter and the internet in general. And a small minority can seem a very large and strong voice online against all the noise.Enoch wrote:Likely it's never been much different, just never had today's level of public access.KeyserSoze wrote:behind that you've got every bell on social media saying stupid things...

A legitimate challenge to Corbyn's leadership is met by screams of 'traitor' and a brick through a window. Is that 'decency' in action?

Saw an interview by Andrew Neill with Eagle and it was telling when asked (repeatedly) what the main policy differences between herself and Corbyn were that she couldn't answer.

So.
Corbyn's on the ballot paper. That's that then. Bye.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: The Politics Thread
YOU will recall, with that amazing memory of yours, that I predicted all this 10 months or so ago. It's coming home to roost. Your cunning plan that Corbyn would be around for long enough to get the more palatable people in his place. I remember you salivating at the extremely estimable Keir Starmer.thebish wrote:bobo the clown wrote:So.

Well, that worked out well.

Re: The Politics Thread
So the Labour Party will solely be a mainly 20th century phenomenon, then.
This is sad.

Re: The Politics Thread
This is consensual politics at the moment. Quite a long way from miners strike, IRA bomb at Brighton, Poll Tax riots etc. I think it's starting to head back down that route with a widening gap between haves and have nots. When have nots genuinely have nowt to lose, then there's usually a problem...BWFC_Insane wrote:Yes. Social media is why people get annoyed by the "youth whinging".
