All property is theft.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

It's about as far south-west as you can go in England, past Penzance. Not quite as far west as land's end but further south. So, yes - Cornish, but the nursing home is nowhere near there (well the other side of Penzance near Helston).Prufrock wrote:Porthgwarra?
Where we talking here?
It's just not a very common name, and happens to be the name of the nursing home the in-laws own in Cornwall. Coincidence?

I don't know about the nursing home, but correct on the other place. Couldn't get further away if we tried (well, I suppose we could have gone to the Scillies).Montreal Wanderer wrote:It's about as far south-west as you can go in England, past Penzance. Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Seriously?! It's a classic.
Obviously it doesn't work if you explain it, but.....old school leftie saying (oft Marx/Lenin attributed, but I think it's French) that 'Property is theft'. So Lenin drinks Jasmine. Jasmine tea. Because proper tea is theft.
That hurt.

'Property is Theft' is a phrase coined by the founder of French Anarchism, Pierre-Joseph Proudhon in, I think, a book, or pamphlet with that title, published in the mid 19th century...Prufrock wrote:Seriously?! It's a classic.

Marx and his followers, including Lenin, despised Proudhon...
I spent several years as an Anarchist, despising Marxism...
I was wrong in that regard (but not about its Bolshevik variant)...
Glad to help...
Re: Today I'm happy about......
Well. I knew it was French! And oft used as leftie bashing. So near enough!
I just like the joke
Although I thought it got pinched and wonkily attributed to Marx due to his dislike of the feudal-like system as he saw it. As in owning property rented out to others who pay you rent to live in it being 'theft'.

Okay, I understand the pun now. I'm not sure why Jasmine tea is proper tea but never mind. Oldest joke in the book? Well, not in my book.Prufrock wrote:Seriously?! It's a classic.

WtW - back in the 60's I was a communist, but I'm pretty sure it was because over here at that time they all believed in free love. Made sense to me. I've since degenerated to a sort of social democrat. Sorry.

Well, I am enlighted.
Crap joke, but at least I know what it's getting at.
... & now, after the 'People's Front of Judea' revelation, we know that Will, when he sets his mind at it, can realise that his philosophical beliefs have been wrong & I await this awakening again. The only question being whether it's soon enough to have him voting Tory next time, or will it take another term ?

It isn't! Proper tea would be theft, so Lenin drinks Jasmine.Montreal Wanderer wrote:Okay, I understand the pun now. I'm not sure why Jasmine tea is proper tea but never mind. Oldest joke in the book? Well, not in my book.Prufrock wrote:Seriously?! It's a classic.
