Carpaccio of halibut, Scandinavian fish stew then baked Camembert with a cloudberry jam. Few accompanying bottles of Mariestads (beautiful stuff) and a Dalwhinnie 15 to finish. A fine way to finish off what's been a very long day.

Really enjoyed La Salsa. The chicken and vegetable paella was particularly nice, as was the chorizo in red wine.

Bit weird with the boxing going on upstairs, sounded like someone was about to come through the ceiling!

Truffled roast chicken with fondant potato and buttered Savoy cabbage. Accompanied by a wonderful bottle of Causse Marine Gaillac Blanc "Les Greilles". Magnificent.

We went to Aumbry last night.

Its very good. Though I would challenge Boris on it being another Michelin Star soon. Thats not to say that it isn't already good, but it needs a little more je ne sais quoi for that to happen in my experience.

A note on the wine also. We had the four course menu, and added cheese (so technically 5!) - the wine to accompany all these courses was £30 quid pp, which is far better value for money than simply buying a bottle (they free-pour there (large measures)), and we had 10 glasses of wine between us, probably easily the equivalent of over two bottles. And it means we had wine to match each dish (it was literally 10 different glasses of wine).

Overall very enjoyable. But its not just for any old night out, with aperitifs, coffee/ petit fours, service charge etc it worked out at £100 a skull. To put that in to context, the 17-course tasting menu at L'Enclume, with wines and everything thrown in, was about £130 a pop. And L'Enclume was (I don't know if its still as good as it was) one of the best meals and evenings I've ever had. Aumbry was just very, very nice.

Feeling quite faint due to lack of chocolate as the house is bare and I haven't been to sainsburys. I do however have butter, flour, sugar (no eggs, rubbish chickens!) cream cheese and possibly some cooking chocolate. I need to find a recipe and make something sweet quick before I fade away.

That sounds a bit too clever and I have no cream so I made no egg cookie dough that you can eat raw. It was delish. And i am now a huge fat heifer.

Will make it again and use it in home made vanilla icecream...
