Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Carpaccio of halibut, Scandinavian fish stew then baked Camembert with a cloudberry jam. Few accompanying bottles of Mariestads (beautiful stuff) and a Dalwhinnie 15 to finish. A fine way to finish off what's been a very long day.

May the bridges I burn light your way
Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Really enjoyed La Salsa. The chicken and vegetable paella was particularly nice, as was the chorizo in red wine.
Bit weird with the boxing going on upstairs, sounded like someone was about to come through the ceiling!

That's Horwich for ya !!89bwfc89 wrote:Really enjoyed La Salsa. The chicken and vegetable paella was particularly nice, as was the chorizo in red wine.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Could you watch the boxing or was that another business. Don't presume it was licenced boxing if it was above a restaurant.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.
Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
It's just a training gym Dan. Not bare-knuckle bouts, Horwich hasn't gone that wild without your civilising influence!

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Some of you talk about it like its the wild wild west, it is comparatively tame compared to Our neighbours down the Chorley new road. I some how think I would have had little influence on Horwich when I was 8.

Probably not! I think the departure of serial bannee Bobo was the main factor.bwfcdan94 wrote:Some of you talk about it like its the wild wild west, it is comparatively tame compared to Our neighbours down the Chorley new road. Truffled roast chicken with fondant potato and buttered Savoy cabbage. Accompanied by a wonderful bottle of Causse Marine Gaillac Blanc "Les Greilles". Magnificent.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
We went to Aumbry last night.
Its very good. Though I would challenge Boris on it being another Michelin Star soon. Thats not to say that it isn't already good, but it needs a little more je ne sais quoi for that to happen in my experience.
A note on the wine also. We had the four course menu, and added cheese (so technically 5!) - the wine to accompany all these courses was £30 quid pp, which is far better value for money than simply buying a bottle (they free-pour there (large measures)), and we had 10 glasses of wine between us, probably easily the equivalent of over two bottles. And it means we had wine to match each dish (it was literally 10 different glasses of wine).
Overall very enjoyable. But its not just for any old night out, with aperitifs, coffee/ petit fours, service charge etc it worked out at £100 a skull. To put that in to context, the 17-course tasting menu at L'Enclume, with wines and everything thrown in, was about £130 a pop. And L'Enclume was (I don't know if its still as good as it was) one of the best meals and evenings I've ever had. Aumbry was just very, very nice.

Feeling quite faint due to lack of chocolate as the house is bare and I haven't been to sainsburys. I do however have butter, flour, sugar (no eggs, rubbish chickens!) cream cheese and possibly some cooking chocolate. I need to find a recipe and make something sweet quick before I fade away.

Flour-less chocolate cake.

Scratch that, you've no eggs. You need eggs.
Or just eat the cooking chocolate.

I have flour but no eggs, and I may yet resort to your plan B.Lord Kangana wrote:Scratch that, you've no eggs. You need eggs.

Snaps (with or without brandy), curled while warm and then pipe in the cream, whipped, and a chocolate sauce to drizzle on.Gooner Girl wrote:I have flour but no eggs, and I may yet resort to your plan B.Lord Kangana wrote:Scratch that, you've no eggs. You need eggs.

That sounds a bit too clever and I have no cream so I made no egg cookie dough that you can eat raw. It was delish. And i am now a huge fat heifer.bobo the clown wrote:Snaps (with or without brandy), curled while warm and then pipe in the cream, whipped, and a chocolate sauce to drizzle on.Gooner Girl wrote:I have flour but no eggs, and I may yet resort to your plan B.Lord Kangana wrote:Scratch that, you've no eggs. If you have corn flakes and/or rice krispies, melt the chocolate and make corn flake and/or rice krispie cakes. Voila.

Ohhh, good plan, had been meaning to make some more cakes for the kids as the flapjack is nearly all finished. Might attempt this with them later.Burnden Paddock wrote:If you have corn flakes and/or rice krispies, melt the chocolate and make corn flake and/or rice krispie cakes. Voila.
