Generally speaking the higher the wage, the better the player. It's not impossible to replace players (especially underperforming/shit ones) with ones on significantly less money, but it's obviously a lot harder.
Granted, but if so, what's the deal with Spearing then?

Or, to put it another way: Do you think Rob Holding is on more money than Pisano and Lawrie Wilson?

Speaking of whom, Wilson - given a two-year contract by Lennon this summer - is back from Peterborough, who haven't yet extended his loan.

Bid for Holding turned down according to Iles. By the end of the day we might have no full-backs.

I think it might be a long day.

I think the 6M from the car park deal has bought us enough time to get through today without having to sell the younger players. I hope at least. We're going to be left with a small squad with the departures but hopefully the club under new owners can build around the likes of Holding.

I hope you're right too.

Wonder if we'll mutually cut our losses on any other player whose contract expires this summer. Those being:

Paul Rachubka, Ross Fitzsimons, David Wheater, Quade Taylor, Neil Danns, Jordan Lussey, Liam Feeney, Emile Heskey, Stephen Dobbie, Tom Eaves

Pisano to a Serie B side...maybe...
Yet another one of Lennon's.
I know this is a shit thread and all, but I do seem to be contributing a significant proportion of the goings on recently

It wouldn't bother me to see a goalie leave, nor Lussey and Eaves but I'd prefer to keep the rest. I'd give Taylor a new contract at the end of the season (if he's good enough) and I'd also give Feeney a new one if we can afford to keep him next year. As bad as Heskey and Dobbie have been at times, I still think they've got something to offer this season.

FWIW, I think the pay disparity between Holding and Pisano is closer than that between Casado and Dean Moxey. And I think Spearing is just a different type of midfielder to the ones he's preferred in Danns, Davies and Pratley (incidentally all of whom be among our higher earners).

But again, I can't state enough times that I'm not suggesting this is some kind of cast iron rule, or actual selection policy. Could Lennon have bought better in the summer? Of course he could, he might have had a higher success rate picking 10 players at random. I'm just saying it's a difficult job to improve your side with players on less money than those you've already got (and when you're limited to free transfers and loaning kids), and if you try you're going to get failures.

Fair enough.

Dobbie's stayed on the bench unused for eight of the last nine games; for the other he wasn't in the squad. It's six weeks since he came on before the 85th minute, nearly three months since he played as much as 45 minutes. When chasing the game these days Lennon is more likely to fling on Woolery and (as with Saturday) not even use his third substitution.

I've nothing against the bloke but obviously he's not enthralling Lennon.

I've started using the term 'Dobbie' as a put-down when I'm playing 5-a-side, either in a self-deprecating way when I've cocked up or when someone else cocks up.

Aye, but even if he gets chucked on just one more time between now and the end of the season and scores a 94th minute winner that gives us a crucial 3 points it'd be worth keeping hold of him. And he's the kind of player that could do that.

Apart from accidentally scoring against Forest, Dobbie has made us look worse every time I've seen him come on.
