I think it would be hard for anyone to say Gartside was not a decent man in a great many respects and his passing is truly sad because of the nature of his demise, his age and the loss to his family.
Having said the above, I'm sorry but no way am I jumping onto the 'fan boy' mentality being displayed by some.

Nobody asked you to Hobes. Treat the thread for its intended purpose hey, and respect it and Phil Gartside the man here. He just died, remember? This isn't the time or place for airing grievances right now.

I don't see where I have been disrespectful to the bloke or his family :conf: and out of respect I shall hold back, as I have for another time and another thread!
I'm sorry you see things differently.

Don't see why that is funny
What's funny is you, and your complete lack of understanding as to the fact that whatever it is that you've given yourself to believe isn't actually the only possible explanation!

I had a chat with Phil Gartside on the phone. I fully accept that is one side of the story. But given he didn't have to spend half an hour chatting to me at the that time and given what was said and how it was said and what I know about the man, I have absolutely no reason to disbelieve it. Certainly think I put more store in that personal interaction than some puff piece in a ghost written autobiography. And that is where I will leave it.

So, exactly as I'm saying, you refuse to accept that there may be two sides to a story? And that's where you make yourself a laughing stock!

Sounds like a great send off. Nice to see likes of Sammy Lee, Dougie Freedman, Lennie Lawrence there. Despite the fact PG ultimately sacked them all, they still clearly have high regards for him as a person.

Wish I'd been able to make it, but sadly just got caught up with other things yesterday.

That might have been seen as a bit hypocritical to expect, Hobes, given the reactions prior to his sad demise as a less than popular chairman of a football club, rather than public sympathy towards a human being passing on. The scenes at Nat's funeral in the town centre ( which we both attended ) were for a long-time public hero and will probably never be replicated again.

I find it an odd correlation that you'd give ED a shoeing, yet pay your respects to someone almost as culpable for our demise

Not sure it is really the place for it.

But a) I met Gartside on a number of occasions and he was in my view a real Bolton fan, doing a very hard job.

b) I don't blame anyone per se for our demise, I think the way things were handled leave a lot to be desired however.

c) I've never met Eddie Davies and can only judge on what I hear. Which to be fair is very, very mixed.

d) I would never wish ill of anyone for mistakes. Or errors in judgement. If PG was guilty of anything they were only errors or mistakes.

Sorely tempted! But I'll leave the childish insults to the mentally young in mind.
Look, if people wish to think Gartside was this truly great guy in his public life and deserves column inches and fan boy worship, fine.
People wish to comment, they comment on a forum, my comment and opinion is Gartside was a major player in the sh*t this club was in.
As a private family person RIP, as a public chairman who helped almost ruin this club, well ....

It wasn't his funeral.
