In later tweets he seems to suggest that one half of the club is selling the training ground and doesn't really know that supposedly a takeover deal has progressed.thebish wrote:Why is it strange?BWFC_Insane wrote:Nixon...
Bolton. Tamraz seems to be close to getting the nod to buy. Strange. Meanwhile Wigan agreed deal for training ground.
My guess is that he finds it strange that a billionaire is getting the nod to buy the club yet the training ground is still apparently being/been sold.
Anyhow, we've been here before, I won't believe anything now until something is concretely said by the club, even then I'll remain suspicious!

Re: The breaking News thread...
In which case it's weirdly worded, considering writing is his job: the "strange" applies to the "Tamraz" sentence, especially as the subsequent "meanwhile" implies a change of topic. If he wanted to link the two he could have said "Strange that Wigan have agreed a deal" etc.BWFC_Insane wrote:In later tweets he seems to suggest that one half of the club is selling the training ground and doesn't really know that supposedly a takeover deal has progressed.thebish wrote:Why is it strange?BWFC_Insane wrote:Nixon...

I would say that he Nixon thinks the Tamraz deal in isolation is strange. Didn't he say earlier on that the Tamraz link was bollocks?

Re: The breaking News thread...
I personally think we're just rationalising our assets - is the Lostock site big enough to accommodate training, the stiffs and the yoof (which amount to one and the same thing these days)?
In which case, why carry the cost of two sites?
Mind, I haven't ruled out us selling both yet.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

This might be what you're hinting at, but it would have to get *very* bad for us to do that. We'd be returning to the bad old post-Bromwich Street days of training on public parks and school fields.Lord Kangana wrote:Mind, I haven't ruled out us selling both yet.
Also note that the Lostock facility is the Eddie Davies Academy, and IIRC he paid a lot of money to have it named that, in a vaguely Etihad-sponsoring-City's-ground way.

The Tamraz takeover is by far the most attractive IMO, if true a very good decision by ED - but for me I will be happy with anyone but the Supporters Trust but certainly happy with this (again if true)
Needs to be sorted in the next few days though, try and get the transfer embargo lifted next week and let Lennon bring in a couple of loan players in before the end of Feb in a last ditch attempt to stay up.

You know nothing about the bid to be able to say it is the best option.Peter Thompson wrote:The Tamraz takeover is by far the most attractive IMO, if true a very good decision by ED - but for me I will be happy with anyone but the Supporters Trust but certainly happy with this (again if true)

I'd definitely reserve judgement.
As for the rest, no way this will be done that quickly. This is just the first step of naming a preferred bidder. Then there is due diligence and the fit and proper test. Weeks and weeks yet.

I don't need to know anymore, I can say what the feck I like....this Tamraz takeover is my preferred option by some distance, based on the fact that he appears to have a shed load more cash than anyone else - which is enough for meBWFC_Insane wrote:You know nothing about the bid to be able to say it is the best option.Peter Thompson wrote:The Tamraz takeover is by far the most attractive IMO, if true a very good decision by ED - but for me I will be happy with anyone but the Supporters Trust but certainly happy with this (again if true)

Re: The breaking News thread...
Likewise Mr Thompson I too feel free to like who I want with no need to know anything other than what I want to; I like the North Koreans. Multibillionaire Tamraz will do. Mr Holdsworth, although of 'local hero' status don't have a pot to piss in (and remember what happened last time we had a local hero, Mr Bo-coyle-jangles!). As for Mike Smith, Mike Smith's mates, Mike Smith's behind the scenes business partners, and Mike Smith's community leadership, well how can I put this... he and his Community Leadership types can all go and have a ****.

Weren't you advocating that we flog it to Sports Shield (despite knowing nothing about the bid)?????BWFC_Insane wrote:You know nothing about the bid to be able to say it is the best option.Peter Thompson wrote:The Tamraz takeover is by far the most attractive IMO, if true a very good decision by ED - but for me I will be happy with anyone but the Supporters Trust but certainly happy with this (again if true)

I don't need to know about the bid, currently we are penny less without a pot to piss in, under a transfer embargo, facing administration and relegation to League 1....therefore anyone with a few bob will do for me !Worthy4England wrote:Weren't you advocating that we flog it to Sports Shield (despite knowing nothing about the bid)?????BWFC_Insane wrote:You know nothing about the bid to be able to say it is the best option.Peter Thompson wrote:The Tamraz takeover is by far the most attractive IMO, if true a very good decision by ED - but for me I will be happy with anyone but the Supporters Trust but certainly happy with this (again if true)

Re: The breaking News thread...
Well 'erm maybe...

At least getting out of something as superficial as a £3m tax bill, should be a piece of pi$$.Roger Tamraz, an international financier and entrepreneur in the oil business, is presently wanted by police in at least two countries. A naturalized American citizen, he has been ordered by a French court to pay the equivalent of some $ 57 million in connection with the collapse of a French bank and faces an Interpol arrest warrant for allegedly embezzling between $154 and $200 million from the failed Al Mashreq Bank in Lebanon, of which he had been the chairman. In June 1995, Tamraz--who had left Lebanon in 1989 with the assistance of Syrian authorities--was also sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison by a military court in Lebanon.1 Tamraz has also been closely involved in business dealings with Libya's state-controlled National Oil Company, to which he sold or with which he merged his own Tamoil company

Anybody sentenced by a military court in Lebanon is OK with me. A military court. In Lebanon. Home to Hezbollah and their World Famous Justice. Yep, Tamraz overtakes the North Koreans in my list to the title...Worthy4England wrote:Well 'erm maybe...

Re: The breaking News thread...
He clearly has resources. It is more a question of whether he is willing to give those to the club.
If he's prepared to chuck millions in then he would get my vote. But we don't know that is the case.

Re: The breaking News thread...
I'm sure Iles tweeted that the tampax bid was based on mortgaging assets rather than chucking his own money in. Sounds dodgy as hell to me.
