Re: Lennon out!
His record suggests,he's very very bad! And Managers are judged on their ability to form teams that are capable of winning.Yes we are up shit creek, but Lennon was still able to recruit almost a full squad in the summer and failed miserably! He was able to sign Amos on big Wonga, and then wasted the rest of his funds available,Pisano and Cassado won't have come cheap,he has,Spearing,Davies,Pratley Wheater,Clough! The list goes on..This feckin team should be nowhere near the foot of the table!!!!! He's a failure, and anywhere else,,including non-league,he would have been potted long ago! He's been able to hide behind our miserable ongoing shitness to run a business and got away with it!!Tombwfc wrote:Still of the opinion that Lennon is nowhere near as bad as his record suggests, but even I accept that I don't think he can turn this around. He isn't as good as he needed to be to handle this situation, although to do so he would've had to have been very good indeed.
We're down regardless though, so might as well let Lennon take the heat and the new saviour of choice can start afresh next season with something approaching optimism.

Re: Lennon out!
We have now had 5 poor managers in a row since Allardyce left. Whilst the personalities and coaching abilities have varied from one to another there are a few common strands.
1. Falling out with players
2. Only selecting those who are in the manager's clique
3. Inability to vary tactics, particularly during a game - could be arrogance or it could be limited intellect
4. Inadequate preparation in the selection of new signings and then being allowed to spend far too much by the board
5. The only experienced manager was Megson and he was a sociopath
6. Not tackling the obvious deficiencies in the team/squad, i.e. central defence at the moment, was full backs and strikers.
The club is to blame in employing these t*ssp*ts.
Lennon should be sacked immediately. If it were down to me I wouldn't appoint a manager until the end of the season. It appears we are going down anyway and as we have coaching staff, I cannot see the gain from keeping Lennon on. Team performances may well improve as a result.
A really radical idea would be to get the senior players in the team to select the matchday squad - an incentive scheme to get the players to be serious about improving results could tie in.

Re: Lennon out!
Been thinking about this. We appointed Coyle from a side in the same division because he thought he'd had greater resources to spend here. He did. But he didn't spend them well.
We appointed Freedman from a side in the same division because he thought he'd have greater resources here. He did to an extent at least initially. But he too made a bit of a horlicks of it.
Then we got Lennon who came because he didn't realise the extent of the financial mess and thought he'd have more resources than he has. But the resources he's had have been used abysmally.
Perhaps it is time to stop recruiting managers who expect there to be great resources and appointing ones expecting to have to turn shit into gravy.
I think our club has been seen as the nursing home for the profligate and greedy.
Time to be smarter about it.

Something we agree upon.

Re: Lennon out!
On what basis is it not as bad as the league position suggests though? How far up the league do you think we should be?LeverEnd wrote:Disagree. Look at the squad. I feel a bit sorry for the guy because he came in with good intentions and had the rug pulled from under him, but he still should've done better than this. I think he's given up, not as a conscious decision, but just as someone who really doesn't have a clue how to deal with the situation that's so different from his easy job in Scotland. Out of all the managers in the Scottish Prem, he's probably the worst we could have had in terms of suitability.
All this is hindsight of course, I was delighted when he joined us.
In the last two season's we finished 14th and 18th, and flirted with relegation for periods in both. For various points during those seasons we had the likes of Chungy, Ream, Bogdan, Jutkiewicz, Baptiste, Mills, Moritz, Mason, Eagles, Le Fondre and Craig Davies. It wasn't a great team by any stretch, but all of those would get in the side now. If you take a mediocre to poor team, get rid of the better players and try to replace them at a fraction of the cost, you end up shit. Even of the better players we still have, Clough has played less than half the games.
That doesn't absolve Lennon, but he's not making a decent side shit, he's been shit at managing a shit side.
Re: Lennon out!
MK Dons manafger Karl Robinson commented on how much stronger our squad was than his. We've still got internationals, players with premier League experience. They are a big let down but a bit of organisation and tactical nous should see us 18th-20th I think.Tombwfc wrote:On what basis is it not as bad as the league position suggests though? Re: Lennon out!
Internationals? Im not sure neil danns imaginary grenadan (?) heritage counts...
I looked at that side Tuesday and it just looked shit to me. Despite signing 2 right backs we haven't got one. Our best centre half has a handfull of games to his name and needs an experienced partner. Wheater is never fit. Dervites a bit shit. Deriks a lot shit. Moxey? Average championship defender. Amos, reasonable keeper on the whole but got an issue with long range efforts.
Velas had a poor season, out of position. Spearing has been a let down, Danns is past it, pratleys average championship and certainly not a leader of men, Feeney I am loath to criticise cos he gets enough shit - but wouldnt get in most teams in this league, wellington is worse! Mark Davies has been massively underwhelming...
Cloughs a talent but too lightweight to lead the line so needs support, heskey is about 3 years past it, madines fcking hopeless and a headcase...stephen dobbies not up to it...
And thats our first team squad. Its where it deserves to be.

It is where it deserves to be, but they've shown in patches they could be better than this and I think a good manager brings that out.
Does anyone really think they'd be bottom with Sam in charge?

Re: Lennon out!
If you line them up against Derby's squad, or Burnley or Boro, there's no argument.
Line it up against Charlton or Rotherham, or McDons, and I'm tempted to say "but still".
One of McDons' best players is a player so shit he rightly couldn't get near our team. They're above us.

Ok we are bottom 4 championship then. I agree. We have the worst manager down there though. I'd swap lennon for redfearn.

Re: Lennon out!
I'd swap Lennon for Peter Thompson, BWFC Insane, or even A1.
I wouldn't swap him for Bish, though. My guess is that Bish's constant Socratic line of questioning would eventually get on Madine's tits so much that he stabs him.

Re: Lennon out!
The problem for me is not individual quality of our players. I'd say a fair number would walk into most bottom half championship sides. It is more a question of the balance in the squad. We lack physical players. We lack a target man and we lack a set piece taker.
Instead of fannying around singing foreign defenders and right backs we could have bought a striker. Because having Madine as cover for a target man would probably be ok in a way that Heskey as cover for Madine so isn't.
If we'd signed the dominant midfield player we needed the back four of Vela, Holding, Dervite and Moxey would be fine. Not great, but fine.
Before the season it was clear we lacked goals in the side. So a player who could take set pieces would have helped us maximise chances from corners etc.
Lennon just bought the wrong players in the wrong areas. Even on a limited budget that was obvious in the summer!

If only you'd been with him at the shop that day Ins. You could have taken all his coices out of the shopping trolley, put em back on the shelf and bought us a winning side. Drat.....

anyone who wants to play madine don't deserve to be choosin the next manager!!

Re: Lennon out!
If Madine scores the winner on Saturday, I'd like you to retract that statement

Re: Lennon out!
Yeah you're right, if only someone had told him that all he really needed to do was sign a prolific goalscorer, a dominant midfielder and prime David Beckham and we'd have been reet. Silly him.BWFC_Insane wrote:The problem for me is not individual quality of our players. I'd say a fair number would walk into most bottom half championship sides. Regardless of how many shit foreign fullbacks he could've not signed, we still couldn't have bought a striker because I believe we've bought one player in about two and a half years. The plan was obviously to bring in someone on loan, but then the club fell to shit.

Re: Lennon out!
Nobody said prolific goal scorer. Also our last manager seemed to do better in the summer at Forest despite an embargo and the inability to spend any money like Lennon. This is the point. He had limited money but used it incredibly poorly. And this isn't hindsight. I said it at the time that signing multiple full backs and foreign defenders was the wrong thing.Tombwfc wrote:Yeah you're right, if only someone had told him that all he really needed to do was sign a prolific goalscorer, a dominant midfielder and prime David Beckham and we'd have been reet. Imagine Allardyce in charge in similar circumstances he'd have made a much better job of it.
Lennons task was hard but not impossible.
