Given it's on the EU thread and you prefer coffee, we'll blame the Germans and French.

Re: The wonderful EU and Migration thread!
The former governor of the Bank of England has claimed that the eurozone is doomed to failure. In a new book, Lord Mervyn King warned that the public will revolt against mass unemployment and perpetual austerity, if policymakers try to impose closer political union to tackle its problems.
He says:
Monetary union has created a conflict between a centralised elite on the one hand, and the forces of democracy at the national level on the other.
King also argued that Greece needs major debt relief, and a cheaper currency, to end its long economic woes. Campaigners have welcomed the move, arguing that Athens creditors must swallow reality

Wasn't there a campaign to end Third World Debt?
Was that also blamed on political union? Or is it just the usual old bollox from the financial sector, who yet again would like to avoid blame and yet still have their cake and eat it by demanding others honour their "debts".
Personally, if I were EU commissioner, I'd tell the banks to go f*ck themselves and offer them a token payment or f*ck all..

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Forgetting that it's OUR deposits, OUR shares and OUR pension funds which would collapse with them. There was a reason, like it or not, that no Govt. would let them go under.Lord Kangana wrote:Wasn't there a campaign to end Third World Debt?

Good plan.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: The wonderful EU and Migration thread!
It’s incredible to see EU supporters suggesting that we’ve enjoyed forty-six years of certainty and stability since signing up to the European project.
What certainty has Brussels offered to our public services, subject to stresses we cannot plan for because we cannot control EU immigration? What certainty has Brussels offered to the steel industry, which we cannot protect from export dumping or assist financially without permission? What certainty has Brussels offered to our shattered fishing industry, deprived of the lion’s share of our marine resources?
If we remain in, we have no way of knowing when the EU is going to dump something like the clinical trials directive in our laps, stunting medical innovation and increasing costs for the NHS. We can’t be sure it won’t suddenly decide we have to start applying VAT to food, books and children’s clothes, as it did for fuel bills. We won’t be able to protect ourselves from deals like TTIP, or even scrutinise their development. That doesn’t look like ‘certainty’ to us.
Despite crisis after crisis, the EU sticks to same old song: “We Didn’t Start the Fire” – except they did. Brexit gives us the chance to put it out.

So why not give it to us, rather than the banks who lost it first time round?bobo the clown wrote:Forgetting that it's OUR deposits, OUR shares and OUR pension funds which would collapse with them. Re: The wonderful EU and Migration thread!
This EU immigration thing.
I'd be interested to see, under freedom of movement (not the insidiously and purposefully used phrase 'immigration' in order to muddy the water) what the net effect is.
My recollection is that the ins and outs of Europeans is unlikely to have much effect on public services in any greater way than say our exporting of our elderly population to sunnier climes. I suspect that, if you were to compare say France with Britain, we probably export less economically active retirees whilst importing a much younger profile from their workforce.
As for if you believe that immigration would slow from outside the EU after exit, I'd love to see a coherent argument as to what that physically would look like. We're a f*cking island! Look at the map! What do you think us being politically part of Europe is doing to change that?
And is it really being suggested that this current UK Government would subsidise our Steel industry? Really?
Come on, cards on table, who believes that this government would subsidise industry in this country if it weren't for European Law?
TTIP. That's a very good question. Considering this government is going hammer and tongs and privatising anything that moves, and indeed anything that doesn't move (the well disciplined ones!) what assurance are we given that an out vote will halt the current ruling ideology that pays no heed to Brussels anyway? I would dearly love it not to go ahead. It will, whether we're part of Europe or not. Unless you believe that IDS, Gove et al are suddenly going to do a gigantic u-turn on their right-wing ideology?

Re: The wonderful EU and Migration thread!
^^ Actually what sort of cock-end thinks that the Government subsidising (in their example) steel wouldn't impact the trading agreements currently in place? The WTO has an Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures. I'm sure that would go away too, because we'd left the EU. Maybe we need to leave "The World" - half our immigration comes from there too.
It's like listening to the terminally stupid.

indeed... the govt has chosen to import steel from Sweden for Royal Navy’s new warships (3 offshore patrol vessels) - via GCH - a firm (coincidentally) founded by a major Tory party donor - Greg Hutchings... his daughter, Cassie, is chief executive of GCH Capital and also a director of Dent Steel. Last year, she signed a letter from business bosses backing David Cameron in the run-up to the general election, claiming Labour would “threaten jobs and deter investment”.
funny that...

Oh I'm so pleased that finally the Remainian equivalents of Galloway are popping out of the woodwork!
AND THEN, BEST OF ALL!!

The master of lies and spin, Lord of the dark who should appear on a gallows next to Bliar soon.
I hope Putin endorses the in camp, that will be fcuking hilarious
Fcuking hell we should really start worrying, mickey mouse will be sprouting shite next!Another foreign leader has entered the debate about Brexit. As Andrew MacDowall reports for Politico, Kosovo’s president-elect, Hashim Thaçi, has said Britain’s departure from the EU could trigger “a chain reaction” with potentially dangerous consequences for the Balkans.
