I certainly didn't see the club being in this position. When I took the job on, it was a case of: 'Keep us up and we will have a go at it next season.' We kept them up comfortably but the rest didn't materialise; I have had to cut, cut, cut the wage bill, sell players and not spend a penny. It does curb your enthusiasm because it wasn't how I expected the job to go.
I knew about the debt. I wish I had been told that the money coming in would stop. If I had known about the situation with the owner I would have had serious reservations about taking it on.
I knew there was a big debt but I knew it was the owner's debt and he was prepared to write it off. What I didn't know was that I wasn't going to be given the chance to invest in players and the squad, as I wanted to. And build, rather than have to demolish; that's all I have done – 19 players went out the door last summer. We cleared about £10m from the wage bill as well as bringing in £2.5m in fees.
There have been experiences that I don't really like. I wouldn't want other managers to experience a lot of those things.
I'm enjoying the challenge – that in itself is a motivation. And if we keep the team in this league, what a great achievement. If we stay up, people will appreciate all that a lot more than if we go down. That's the black and white of football.
I want the chance to rebuild because I haven't had a chance to build anything.
Is he bi-polar?
On the one hand he wouldn't have taken the job on. On the other he's looking forward to the challenge of building something.
Shit, or get off the pot. It's not just the off-field crap that's responsible for our league position. You are too.

Re: Lennon out!
yeah BN saying SS still to decide whether to stick or twist.
relegation is inevitable regardless, id like to twist now, give the new manager a few games to look at his squad and give him a better idea of the work he needs to do in the summer. maybe we can enjoy our last few games in the Championship.
Keith Lennon's reign is done, rotten and rancid. no come back for him now.

In all seriousness, he might be. Certainly he has spoken before about enduring spells of a less specific depression (here, here (audio), here, here etc). A friend of mine suffers bipolar disorder and swings from an almost unnerving emphatic enthusiasm (the equivalent of charging up and down the touchline) to periods when he simply goes through the motions and cannot be roused to do anything (say, make a substitution). And there's no real way of predicting when the peaks and troughs will come – it's not a smooth sine wave.Gary the Enfield wrote:Is he bi-polar?
Apologies if this sounds flippant, I genuinely do not intend to demean what can be a debilitating condition. And obviously I don't know if Lennon suffers from it.

I think my comment was more flippant than yours DSB. Back in the day we'd have called him Schizophrenic. However he does himself no favours by hinting he doesn't like the job and by turn relishing the challenge. I guess he's fence sitting until the new Chiefs decide what to do with him. Invest or divest. Whichever way they can't vest.

Re: Lennon out!
Well, I've a) never met the guy b) am in no way qualified to offer a diagnosis (although, I'm almost certain that Kanye West is Bi-Polar) but if he's suffered from depression before I imagine recent events and ongoing circumstances might well have triggered another bout.Gary the Enfield wrote:Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:In all seriousness, he might be. Re: Lennon out!
"Manic depressive" was the term more recently. As I understand it, schizophrenia is a wider term encompassing all sorts of mental disorders, notably including (but not limited to) what is now known as disassociative identity disorder (erstwhile "split personality").Gary the Enfield wrote:I think my comment was more flippant than yours DSB. Again, I'm very far from being expert in this ("and everything else" - The World) but it's not always as simple as bad things triggering bouts. I've known some people close to me experience depression when they seemed to have everything going in their favour. Essentially it seems to me to be (as with soooo much else) a chemical imbalance in the brain, which could be temporary or chronic. It's often treated with pharmaceuticals and in one of those links I posted Lennon refers to medication - essentially saying Keep Taking The Pills - but (again) without belitting the situation, could it be that the dosage makes one docile?Beefheart wrote:if he's suffered from depression before I imagine recent events and ongoing circumstances might well have triggered another bout.
Re: Lennon out!
Yeah, it can happen at any time for no reason at all but depressive episodes can also be triggered by stressful situations, for example - I can't speak from first hand experience, fortunately for me, but that's how I understand it.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:"Manic depressive" was the term more recently. Re: Lennon out!
I read his book when we got him. Think he said he's been on a pretty even keel for a few years once they figured out it was depression and got the treatment right.

Re: Lennon out!
No idea about the mental illness angle, reads to me like a pre-interview in anticipation of future roles.
Not my fault but I'm up for the challenge. A bit of PR airbrushing.
Given the mess that's been made of the finances I think he will walk away relatively unscathed. And good luck to him if he does. I wish him no ill despite the crap job he's done.

Agreed with all that. He definitely sounds like he's hedging his bets, and who can blame him? And yes, although I disagree with some of his decisions and actions, I don't dislike the man.LeverEnd wrote:No idea about the mental illness angle, reads to me like a pre-interview in anticipation of future roles.

He leaves, like Freedman or Coyle, indifference is how I'd feel.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Agreed with all that. He definitely sounds like he's hedging his bets, and who can blame him? Megson did, and still does, make me feel a tinsy bit queasy. I think it's the grin. Coyle and Freedman pissed me off at the end. I never was a fan of either, but I didn't personally dislike them. Lennon's another kettle of fish. I think he's a manipulative lying sleazebag, the sooner we're rid the better.Hoboh wrote:He leaves, like Freedman or Coyle, indifference is how I'd feel.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Agreed with all that. Re: Lennon out!
More importantly an awful manager. Lennon wants to use the media to blame the circumstances. And whilst they've been tough he clearly isn't being honest with himself if he thinks he's done an ok job here, even under these circumstances.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Megson did, and still does, make me feel a tinsy bit queasy. Even if does know he's been crap he's going to try to spin it his way, which isn't hard when you're good with the press and the club that sacked you is a financial and organisational basket case.

There are different ways of not saying that. Lennon continuously pretends that, usually named, individuals are to blame. He's squirmier than a slow worm.Prufrock wrote:He's not gonna say "I'm shit, me" is he?

I'm confused. Has he gone ??
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
