Same again today: 3 on target, 2 goals. Leeds had 4 on target, scored 2 goals; so did Burnley.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:By the way, I don't mean to sound unkind, but Preston scored with their first effort on target, while Ipswich scored from 2 of their 3 the other night. I know goalkeeping is more complex than that, but is Rachubka up to the job?
Again, it's a reductive stats set - and to Rachubka's credit, in his first game Birmingham only scored with 1 of their 5 on-target attempts - but he's hardly The Impregnable Spider, is he?

Rotherham 36
Charlton 29 (game in hand)
Bolton 27

We beat Preston (while McDons lose to Kingstonupon). I've got a 100% prediction record since I posted the run in predictions. The last three games have all gone according the fates as revealed to me. Nailed on WIN this one. Nailed with tempered steel nails...

We need at least seven wins from the final nine games to stay up. Just sayin'.

That quote's from Wiki, right? It has a citation from the BBC, but the linked page doesn't mention contract length, and the contemporary Guardian, Telegraph and Daily Record pieces all reported a three-year deal.DJBlu wrote:Lennon is too stubborn to walk.
I don't think the club can afford to sack him even with the club in new hands.
"Lennon was announced as the new manager of Bolton Wanderers on 12 October 2014, signing a four-year contract."
We're in for some dark days waiting for that contract to run down.

Nine games left. Three wins and three draws off safety. So we need four wins out of nine games, just to catch up. And that's before our rivals play. We have three rivals but if only two of them win just one more and draw another from their nine games, we'll need to win six out of nine. Domeeeeeeeeeeeeeed.

We've performed decently enough and had enough possession and play to have won the past 5 or 6 games. Instead all losses & draws. Soft defence when under real pressure. Poor attackers when it matters.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

The last four, I agree. Five ago was Birmingham away, a (yes) spineless and gutless performance in which we only had four efforts, one on target. The one before that was QPR at home, which we could have edged, but we only had eight efforts and just two on target, so despite the lateness of their equaliser QPR (who had more shots and more on target) could argue they deserved it more than us.bobo the clown wrote:We've performed decently enough and had enough possession and play to have won the past 5 or 6 games. But yeah. The deadly combination of inefficient attack and error-prone defence. That'll do it for yer. We've had three home games in the last four, conceded two in each and resultantly gathered a grand total of one point, through an injury-time penalty.

Yep. Though the midfield is possibly our weakest aspect all round.bobo the clown wrote:We've performed decently enough and had enough possession and play to have won the past 5 or 6 games. Instead all losses & draws. Soft defence when under real pressure. Poor attackers when it matters.

Given contracts tend to go to season end I fear it's uncertainty at how to describe a 3 and 3/4 year contract.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:That quote's from Wiki, right? Playing well ...irrelevant
Being unlucky..irrelevant
Possession.......irrelevant
Near misses, hitting woodwork etc...irrelevant.
Not being injured..irrelevant.
Scoring.......relevant.
Winning....most relevant.

"On Jay Spearing’s omission from the team…
We had to leave him out today because if he had played we were due to pay Liverpool an amount of money. Again, that is frustrating, but the new owners are only just in the door and they have to get their feet under the table and sort out what is best for the club. We don’t want to leave Jay in limbo, so that’s something we’ll have to resolve sooner rather than later."

I heard about this at the game. I've thought ever since they reared their heads that this new lot are a bunch of chancers and this does nothing to suggest otherwise.TonyDomingos wrote:From Lennon's post-match comments:TANGODANCER wrote:Spearing must be carrying a knock. Unless someone else somes in I see us as lower league for a number of years unless we get lucky and land an up and coming manager like Sam.
It's looked dreadful for a while and anyone who thinks this takeover is going to cure everything is fecking delusional.

Oh yes, almost forgot to mentiuon that I was at the game today and it was fecking shit.
feck Gary Madine up his stupid arse the lazy gutles soft-arsed prick. Clough was dire, Wilson played the 2nd half like he was new to the game and Rachubka is actually worse than Amos. Who is shit.
feck the lot of them.

Oh and another thing, Trotter's goal was a thing of beauty and I was in the prefect place to see it.
I salute him for his turnaround.

The cure for everything is a few hundred million quid plus. As nobody seemed to want to do that, certainly on the terms offered we have to work with what we've got.LeverEnd wrote:I heard about this at the game. I wouldn't pay £100K for Spearing to play in 10 meaningless games. We've been down for weeks. Clear the decks and start again next season.
I wouldn't castigate new owners after a day. They've inherited this mess and have to unpick it. The fact that we are paying very average or even poor players the sort of money we are is scandalous.
I thought today and I genuinely don't think I can remember seeing a worse player turn out for us than Gary Madine. We've had a lot though who have been paid a lot less than him, that is for sure.
