Re: The athletics/running thread
Ran 19:33 at Bradford parkrun yesterday, my fastest for almost 2 years. Wish I could run more than 3 times a week but my calves aren't up to it yet. Slowly but surely getting fitter though. I've entered the Beverley 10k May 8th, first proper race for a couple of years so that's something to aim for.

Nice one LE. That's sounding pretty promising.
Just completed my first ever ultra. The Oldham way 40 miler. Ran it with a lass from work who's very slow but has completed several ultras. A few navigational errors meant we actually covered 44 miles. My feet are battered

Fair play, that's a fine effort. I'd be in hospital for a month! I'm currently clocking up about 15 miles per week as I ease my way back, so that's three weeks worth for me.Harry Genshaw wrote:Nice one LE. That's sounding pretty promising.

Nice to see everyone getting out and about. I'm three weeks into my programme now but it's working out that Saturday is my day off at the moment.
Friday was and 8 mile run followed by a 1 mile swim and Sunday was a 35 mile bike ride. So far so good although I'm going to see the Physio/ Osteopath regularly just to keep on top of the back ache.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Just watching the women's half marathon from Cardiff. These women run at an unbelievable pace. You'd find me tucked in behind No. 103, whoever she is

Re: The athletics/running thread
Proper runners are frightening. LE posted this in 2014 and it's stuck with me:
I'm 27, play football twice a week, usually get out for a run once more, the gym at least once, and have always been relatively fit, especially now I've pretty much quit smoking. My fastest spilt time when I'm doing a 5k is usually about 6:30 so I reckon even with all the training in the world I'd be hard pushed to get near a 5 min mile. He did 26 of the feck*. In a row.LeverEnd wrote:Dennis Kimetto just broke the world marathon record in Berlin with a time of 2:02:57.
Absolutely stupendous, that works out at 26 consecutive 4:41 miles, or 42 x 2:54 kilometres.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Stunning. Are you watching Cardiff, Pru? Kenyans, Eritreans, Ethiopians running in the worst possible conditions and ripping it. Mo Farah third and sets a European record. Kamworor, the winner, actually fell at the start line and has ran with bleeding knees.Prufrock wrote:Proper runners are frightening. I'm not. To my shame, whilst if I find knowledge of these incredible feats fascinating and literally awesome, I find watching them actually do itinterminably dull
