Marginally - you can certainly be stoned in both Bradford and Turkey...Montreal Wanderer wrote:You can be beheaded in Saudi Arabia for adultery and stoned in Nigeria, but I imagine things are different in Turkey and Bradford.

I was just trying to suggest that a reformation in Islam might be possible, if the kindlier schools gained dominance, even if the basic text remains unaltered.
I think you are right - it is already happeneing to some extent.

All the difference in the world Monty, otherwise people wouldn't still be interpreting any of the texts/scriptures etc and all would agree on things.Montreal Wanderer wrote:
However, I'm no expert and go only by what Jewish and Muslim friends have told me. Interpretations make a huge difference. You can be beheaded in Saudi Arabia for adultery and stoned in Nigeria, but I imagine things are different in Turkey and Bradford.
Plus about twenty thousand translators and half a dozen languages, 270 or so, Catholic Popes, and two thousand years of argument. We haven't come very far with it all have we?Some 52 gnostic gospels were chucked out so we only have to remember the names of four evangelists.

If you mean Honour Killings and Honour Based Violence then they are all too common in the UK. There were 29 reported cases between 2010 and the start of 2015, though the numbers are likely to be much higher. The majority carried out by southern Asian origin (mainly Pakistani ethnic origin) families. Although not a religious issue, they are carried out by people of a very similar demographics.Worthy4England wrote:Marginally - you can certainly be stoned in both Bradford and Turkey...Montreal Wanderer wrote:You can be beheaded in Saudi Arabia for adultery and stoned in Nigeria, but I imagine things are different in Turkey and Bradford.

Re: Muslims, racists, individuals and attitudes.
I meant, of course, stoning as a formal, legal punishment. We had an honour killing in Canada. An Afghani immigrant, his wife and teenage son killed his three daughters and possible second wife because the eldest daughter was becoming too westernized and had a boyfriend at school. What a misnomer honour is in this context.malcd1 wrote:If you mean Honour Killings and Honour Based Violence then they are all too common in the UK. Re: Muslims, racists, individuals and attitudes.
I have just looked up the case in wiki
. The perpetrators all got life imprisonment with no parole hearing for 25 years. Naturally these murders shocked most Canadians, but I think it worth noting the reaction of the Muslim community.

It has also given rise to the debate about the relationship of honour killing and Islam. Islamic organizations based in Canada condemned the murders. The Islamic Supreme Council of Canada, along with other Canadian Muslim organizations, have publicly denounced domestic violence and honour killing as un-Islamic. Ali Falih Altaie, the family imam, said that the murders were unforgivable, and cautioned against associating honour crimes with Islam, calling the actions incompatible with any religion.
In 2012 imams from across Canada and the U.S. issued a moral ruling officially condemning honour killings, domestic violence and misogyny as un-Islamic. Thirty-four imams belonging to the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada, including a handful of American members, signed the fatwa in an effort to counter misinterpretations of the Qur'an, they said.

Worst what?

^^ You can add your own funny word or phrase after worst. And then laugh yourself sh*tless at how funny it was - or maybe share as witty banter on twitter with your favourite halloumi and quinoa friends group.

It's just a joke. Like on Top Gear.

Not by Stewart Lee it isn't. He is a pretentious, unfunny knob who can't even spell his own name correctly.Prufrock wrote:It's just a joke. Like on Top Gear.

I'd love to see a Venn diagram showing those supporting Adam Johnson and those hosting Britain First posts on their Facebook pages.

It's almost as if this is important enough to get that angry about.

I'm sure you type out the first half of your posts in your head before finishing them off on here.
You've gone from genuinely not understanding people who don't find Stewart Lee funny to something on top gear being just a joke without any correlation whatsoever.

Re: Muslims, racists, individuals and attitudes.
I'm not quite with you there, hoboh. Johnson was a sexual predator who seduced a minor - clear premeditation there and, presumably, statutory rape. Chickoto failed to see a drunken woman lying in the road and hit her. Granted with no license or insurance he panicked and fled the scene. Later than night he told the truth. It just doesn't seem as bad to me as seducing a minor - though they are both culpable. Whatever happened to the bus driver and two other drivers who saw her lying there and did not stop?Hoboh wrote:He got what he deserved but I do worry about sentencing when this was the result for this tw*tBijou Bob wrote:I'd love to see a Venn diagram showing those supporting Adam Johnson and those hosting Britain First posts on their Facebook pages.

Thanks for clearing that up. But that's now 14 minutes and one second of my life wasted.Prufrock wrote:CrazyHorse wrote:Prufrock wrote:It's just a joke. Like on Top Gear.
