oh - she's already comparing prices online!! (I'm gonna take some of our old ones round and test them first!) I've been told that if a magnet sticks to them they may well work... but i haven't got a magnet!

Needs to be a copper or stainless steel base generally (the base is the important piece). If you ever take the lid off them (not advisable!) they're just a massive bundle of copper wire wrapped in a big circular coil.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Sorry, just to be clear, the magnet test isn't infallible.

Cast Iron/black iron etc (so Le Creuset and Lyonnaise pans) won't work.

Find the most expensive and/or best pans that you can and then claim the cost back on relocation expenses?!

Apparently Cheryl is leaving the X-Factor to go and make music. That's going to be a huge career change from anything she's previously done. I for one, would like to wish her well.

Well, from the full front page in -your-face pic all over the Sun, (just in case anyone doesn't know what she looks like) it seems a lot of others are joining you.... Er good luck Cheryl...I think...

The doctors are on strike again today. I'm not angry, they're entitled to and they may well have a legitimate reason, I haven't seen the details of their new imposed contract. The dispute centres around the wonderfully illiterative Mr Hunt's need for a "7 day NHS".

On Sunday, I went in to work for an hour to arrange my clinics for this week. Despite having GP's on duty in a very large primary care centre, the waiting room was empty. According to one of the receptionists, "Patients don't like Sunday appointments". I rang 7 patients, all of whom expressed surprise that I was ringing them on a Sunday, 3 of them being rather annoyed that I had.

Monday morning, I couldn't park at work. The car park was full and the waiting room full to bursting. It stayed that way until nearly teatime.

Now, is this an issue of promoting a cultural shift, so that going to the doctor becomes 'normal' on a Sunday or/and does it indicate that in some areas of healthcare, 7 day service is not only a pipe dream given current resources, but unwanted by the populace? If this is the case, problem solved, no dispute needed.

It's a cultural change surely. I book dental and doctors appointments either before or after work on a weekday. If weekend appointments were available then I'd go for that every time. The opticians are always busy at a weekend. I reckon GP's surgeries would be too

Nobody would mind that if the government were prepared to pay for those services 7 days a week. But they're not. They basically just want a 7 day service by squeezing existing resource which is already squeezed to breaking point.

Most of the NHS operates a 365 days a year service. But Hunt conveniently brands it differently because he's a .....

Aye - I work away a lot of the time, so if I need to see a GP then I have to ensure I'm Oop North - if it's coz I'm "bed-ridden poorly" then it makes bugger all difference - because I wouldn't be away anyhow. But other routine stuff like "come in for a blood test" is a right pain in the ass.

There still needs to be something available during weekends, short of "better head to A&E then, because it's the only place open"...

Irrelevant, I know, but can't help thinking of when we had Bolton Royal Infirmary ( closed in the nineties and demolished) in addition to Townleys (Bolton District General Hospital now) and never had to wait hours to be seen.

I rang up to see the doctor on Monday, to be told the next appointment was the 18th of April. When I explained that this wasn't much use the receptionist explained half-heartedly that there appointments on this Sunday if I didn't mind seeing someone other than my regular GP. She seemed shocked when I said OK! I wouldn't mind, but until recently we didn't even have assigned doctors, and I still don't think I've seen the same one twice!

Wasn't Townley's originally part of the Workhouse?

Oh aye - no arguments from me here fella. My only gripe is that it's Hunt taking most of the flak rather than his gaffer

Our surgery is up to the 12th of May as of last night, so you were lucky! For those patients with mental health issues, the queue for hi intensity therapy has now reached 22 weeks. By end of next week, it'll be over a 6 month wait. By September it will possibly be nearer 9 months. Unhappy days.
