Do you know Worthy, the thing I am happiest about is actually being given the chance to vote on this.Worthy4England wrote:Well it's not like most folks on either side of the debate have any vested interests now, is it?
I just missed out last time and probably would have voted to stay in a 'common market' all the political shit since that has been foisted upon us since, with the various treaties, without any real say, is what narks.

oh - I fear not! Should we leave - then Hobes can be called to account every week for every tiny bit of shoite that ever happens - cos it'll then surely be the fault of leaving the EU rather than being in it!

You probably don't recall Bruce, but can you summarise a little bit?Bruce Rioja wrote:Heard a superb interview with the uber level-headed Mervyn King yesterday. How pleasant it was to hear someone intelligently debate both sides of the issue, as opposed to listening to (and reading) wankers in 'if I shout the loudest' rants.

Re: Brexit or Britin
I had the £9m leaflet through this morning entitled 'Why The Government Believes You Should Vote to Stay in Europe'. That might not be how its actually titled but I'm not far out. Anyway, the point is, shouldn't it say 'Prime Minister' rather than 'Government'?

If the Cabinet voted to release this then no, it's the Government...The Conservative manifesto said they were about staying in assuming Cameron felt he had an agreement that met his threshold to be able to recommend staying in, not leaving.Bruce Rioja wrote:I had the £9m leaflet through this morning entitled 'Why The Government Believes You Should Vote to Stay in Europe'. indeed - staying in is government policy. The fact that there are rebels and they have been allowed to rebel whilst also being cabinet ministers doesn't alter this. as worthy said - in the manifesto and they were voted into majority by the great british public. I still don't think that it is very remarkable that a government voted into power with a manifesto commitment on this issue should be somehow expected to be neutral...Worthy4England wrote:If the Cabinet voted to release this then no, it's the Government...The Conservative manifesto said they were about staying in assuming Cameron felt he had an agreement that met his threshold to be able to recommend staying in, not leaving.Bruce Rioja wrote:I had the £9m leaflet through this morning entitled 'Why The Government Believes You Should Vote to Stay in Europe'. Re: Brexit or Britin
Aye - fair points. Can we expect something similar from the Out campaign and if so, who'd be responsible for picking up the tab for it?

The government leaflet isn't part of the "in campaign". It is just a government leaflet.Bruce Rioja wrote:Aye - fair points. Can we expect something similar from the Out campaign and if so, who'd be responsible for picking up the tab for it?
I'm sure brexit have their own materials. But they have to pay for them.

(and they have probably left it too late... which might be why they are very cross!)

Re: Brexit or Britin
What the Out campaign does and who'd pick up the tab, is up to them. They're not an elected government, collectively they're less democratically elected than the EU so they don't represent the views of anything Joe Voter has actually voted on. The government has laid out some elements that support their manifesto commitment and their collective belief that "in" is in the best interests of the UK. Is it biased - absolutely. It's not designed to support anything other than their manifesto commitment.Bruce Rioja wrote:Aye - fair points. Hmmm. 'The campaigns will be allowed to spend up to £7m, get a free mailshot, TV broadcasts and £600,000 public funds'.
