Re: 20/20 world cup
Aye agreed though my point is that all through the tournament England have tried to bowl in the same way at the death. Full. Not that many teams do that in T20. But they've had plans and not deviated. You can easily say that Stokes should have reacted to what CB was doing and I'd agree. But they had followed the same plans before and they had worked and I can see why they attempted the same thing that had worked so well previously.Worthy4England wrote:
They were on different pitches in different countries. but then again the IPL is a different competition completely - so let's acknowledge that the stats could support any point of view.
Easy sat here and I'm not looking to blame anyone, certainly not Stokes - great cricketer and shit happens. But sometimes you have to think. Apart from shot 1, where the ball was that short, the batsman had time to adjust, the next three he pretty much sets himself to play the same shot before the ball's left the bowlers hand - his back-foot's anchored - the big heave-ho towards cow - and Stokes serves up a very similar ball to the one before right in his arc. No thought, no change, same result.
I'd also take into account that Stokes is an all rounder. I'd certainly not put him in the specialist T20 bowler category. Like with Jordan he got better as the tournament went on by essentially keeping things fairly simple and hitting the pitch hard. We don't really have a T20 specialist with all the variations and perhaps that did cost us. Brathwaite might have smacked virtually anything though, the mood he was in.

So, to try and make some sense of it all, are you saying BWFCi, that unless England win everything we're guilty of some great sporting crime? What's guaranteed about any of it? The big-hitting and feared Gayle went for just a couple of runs, as did Morgan and a couple of our batsmen. Braithwite (as has been said several times) hit four sixes off four balls to win it for them after we got ourselves into a winning situation. In a nutshell, in the end it came down to the toss of a coin and we lost that. There are no excuses, no blame and if we played the final again tomorrow would you mortgage your house on a Windies win if we won the toss? Not knowing is what allows bookmakers to make a living. We played well, got to the final by doing so and lost in the last over. Despite all the money involved, it's still a sport, a game of chance with no guarantees. That's it and nothing will change it.

Actually, Insano was arguing that Stokes' length was almost long enough for the job, whilst everyone else was arguing his length was deficient. Aside from determining that his length was indeed very deficient, we also were able to determine that the experts know fcuk allthebish wrote:eh??? I was actually referring to the need for such a pointless, lengthy inquest on what has passed. (thus, the general term "England win everything") and BWFCi's dogged determination that we can't just pass on regardless of how many we should have got, whether it was a good/bad pitch, a yorker or a dolly. We played well and just lost. That's all.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Actually, Insano was arguing that Stokes' length was almost long enough for the job, whilst everyone else was arguing his length was deficient. That his granny could have hit those disgracefully short, leg-side balls from Stokes for six with her broom handle.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:This is fast becoming a contender for tedious thread of the year. Anyway, what does Geoffrey think? not that I give a shit.
