I also like him Bruce - his interview on ITV / Granada Reports was better IMO, I'm sure that he said he's pretty certain that he'll get the embargo lifted before the window opens and also mentioned a transfer budget of over £2M which in League 1 terms is decent.

He said that 2 of the 3 shortlisted managers are still in work so if its one of them they go for they would need to sort out compensation before hopefully making an announcement next week.

Didn't see it. PT, but if it involved returning the club to a sound financial footing then it gets my vote. I couldn't care a feck as to whatever happens elsewhere!

Not arsed about words. Heard enough promises to take us to The Champions League and back.

Sort the f*cking mess out, theres a good lad.

Mmm yeah he talks a good game. He can't make Mark Cnut Davies cancel his contract mind. So reasonable hopes for me - get us stable, lose players by what means you can, and appoint a manager. Interesting 2 out of the 3 are in work. Browny is feck* odds on?

Who says they will keep them?
Remember Newcastle during Kegan's reign, save money, no reserves.

Looking for it now - sure I'd linked it previously....buggered if I can find it.

Indeed, but it's where we are now. £4K a week is still a fecking fortune. I'm guessing the we won't even bother opening the upper tiers for several games next season.
Don't disagree. But if we don't get rid of some of the big earners that leaves us struggling big time if we are strict with that budget and living within our means. Amos has the wage of four players at that rate.

Yes, Anderson says it'll be a c.24 man squad and his intended annual budget equates to around £100k pw. But, if we can't get rid of the four high earners he names (let's say they're on £15k each pw), then that leaves just £40k pw for the other 20 players. I don't know what £2k pw buys you, but I suspect it's not a top Div One performer. Getting rid of just one of the four could make all the difference next season.

I think he did well to point out that young players can make mistakes - not that any of our senior pros have made any this of course...

Oh and did you know I've got 2 years on my Contract so I'm going to be really difficult to budge...

A lot of what he says is true, in terms of how hard it will be next year.

But he seems to not accept that he is part of the problem.

"The club has to act".

Darren mate, you are part of the club and YOU should take responsibility. Not just blame the owners or the board or the young players etc....

Pratley, Davies and Wheater will get offers elsewhere. The Chairman has done a decent job for my money by warning the senior pros and their agents they're not going to be a pushover. I suspect that's a hangover from the Pratley and Davies deals falling through earlier this season. At an average of 4 grand a week, we'll still have one of the best paid squads in the division and should be able to attract adequate replacements who are hungry to progress and earn better contracts based on performance and success. The downside is that with Spearing, Pratley, Mavies gone, we start the season without a central midfield player aside from Trotter (Who to be fair, could boss League 1 if he plays as he has this season in patches) or Vela, if he stays.

Next season is going to be more about further dismantling than building anything. I'll be amazed if we are anywhere near the top.

Yup. Though I find it difficult to imagine that the top earners still in contract will move on quickly unless it's on loan. No one will match their current wages, so they have little incentive to leave.

We don't need to worry about Wheater as his contract is up in a couple of months. Pratley and Davies might not go anywhere if they take the view that they don't want to take a pay cut. I struggle to see who would pay them what they currently earn unless some extra zeros get put in the contract that go unnoticed.

For me, we should get rid of as many as we can and look to only keep the likes of Clough and Holding. All I hope for next season is a togetherness, plenty of endeavour and lots of fight. Oh, and a few wins here and there!

Not sure I'd turf out all the babies with the bathwater - Niall Maher, for example?

Quick recap: here's the contract situation.
Out of contract this summer: Paul Rachubka, Ross Fitzsimons, Hayden White, Niall Maher, Oscar Threlkeld, Rob Holding, Alex Finney, David Wheater, Quade Taylor, Neil Danns, Jordan Lussey, Tom Walker, Liam Feeney, Rob Hall, Emile Heskey, Stephen Dobbie, Tom Eaves, Kaiyne Woolery
2017: Lawrie Wilson, Francesco Pisano, Dorian Dervite, Dean Moxey, Josh Vela, Filip Twardzik, Jay Spearing, Liam Trotter, Mark Davies, Gary Madine, Max Clayton
2018: Derik Osede, Darren Pratley, Conor Wilkinson
2019: Ben Amos, Zach Clough

From what we've been told I'd surmise that the big earners contracted after this summer will be Spearing, Davies, Amos, Pratley; I'd suspect Trotter, Moxey, Dervite and possibly Derik are on middleish wages, with Wilson and Madine on less still.
