Re: What are you watching tonight?
Well, last night ... to be nice to Mrs bobo ... I watched "Shakespeare Live!" ont' BBC.
What a pile of steaming shite. Luvvies doing what they do worst, very badly. Before an invited 'balanced' audience made to appear like it was especially commissioned by Sioban from WA1. It seemed that no expense was spared when this was a case to prove that "less is more".
To be truthful, after watching that I'm of the view that none would have been very much more.
La bobo tries, every now & then, to get me switched onto the Bard. I have tried. Honestly. But every single time they let her down. With some luck this will persuade her to stop trying.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Quite. I can recall an entire rabble of a class being hooked off at 12 or 13 to see one of them at the pictures. Might have been Henry V. There's a night before battle soliloquy we'd been told to watch for. Teacher was a long haired luvvie. Finally got us quiet and not lobbing polo's and gob balls at each other just before the big scene. Actor in full armour kneels down in silhouette behind tent and in front of campfire. Sword pommel sticking proudly out at knob height. We were asked to leave.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Back a while, our English teacher at Bolton tech decided to put on a Shakespeare play ( ask me not what, for mortal memory is a fragile thing) for the public. In the script, myself and another important actor ( well, we felt important with make up on, black robes, white stocks and all that stuff) were two clerks who had to lift a supposedly dead guy onto a bed. In a dress rehearsal we grabbed the "body" and bundled it onto a replica bed ( a table with a sheet over it) . We then stood in front of it with sombre expressions. Suddenly a massive howl of laughter made us jump back in surprise to find the "body" was threshing about on the floor behind us having fallen off the bed. Both of us expected a bollocking, but the teacher cracked up and found it so funny he left it in the play (which outsold The Mousetrap of course)...

Anyone seen the new Louis Theroux doc yet, Drinking into Oblivion? I haven't personally but a lot of people I know have been waxing lyrical about it, though it's supposed to be a brutal watch.

I watched this and found it incredibly sad. Theroux is excellent at what he does, letting a story tell itself without a lot of involvement. He's had a lot of stick for this one from some quarters, particularly around it being exploitative - drunks aren't going to say "No, I don't want to be filmed" (I disagree - drunks in my experience can be incredibly erratic in their behaviour).KeyserSoze wrote:Anyone seen the new Louis Theroux doc yet, Drinking into Oblivion? The one criticism I did have was the failure to address the causes of the alcoholism of those filmed in any detail. The despair was tangible, uncomfortable and quite shocking in parts, yet not overly voyeuristic.

Watched The Lady in The Van last night. Was a decent watch. Maggie Smith and Alex Jennings both gave excellent performances though, I thought.

I've been meaning to watch that. Found out this week it's a true story based on an alan Bennett play about an old woman who lived in a van on his drive for 15 years. Looking forward to it.Bruce Rioja wrote:Watched The Lady in The Van last night. Was a decent watch. Maggie Smith and Alex Jennings both gave excellent performances though, I thought.

I think the quality of the performances got it home, but otherwise I'd have agreed.General Mannerheim wrote:i found it![]()

I've spent the day cleaning, then the evening cooking, and I've now sat down with a 20cl bottle of Coop prosecco to watch Bridesmaids, which I've been dying to watch for ages.
Wow that sounds gay.

Though the bit about using the Co-op helps you a bit.

It's all right. I'm spending this morning rereading all my back issues of Nuts magazine.
Bridesmaids was good. Couple of glorious moments. Worth a watch.

Bobo - two months into a six month placement in Singapore. I've found new depths to the internet.
General - oh yes. I've watched three series in three weeks. It's the best sitcom I've seen in years. I've never seen a sitcom try so much and it all come off, it's glorious. Boardwalk is next on our list but I've been told I'm waiting for her to come back.
TD - it's in two weeks I think. iPlayer had a warm up recap programme if you can find it. I'm looking forward to it being back. Wall to wall talent.
