But it may not be next week - it sounds like they have made the appointment but perhaps can't announce it until after the season finishes -which would indicate that they have chosen a manager currently in a job but have agreed to wait until the season ends next weekend before going public ?

Not hard, is it? Bloke looks at our squad and says "I think we need an experienced centre-back to play alongside Holding, and a goalkeeper if we can sell Amos" etc, then Deano/Ken start assessing options, what with Ken's contacts and Dean's QA spreadsheets.

There's a possible conflict of interests if the incoming gaffer's current club also needs the same type of player. But it's not like managers moving is a new concept.

BTW Sheridan's Oldham got beat 3-0 at Millwall, Hill's Rochdale came from 2-0 down to draw at home to Swindon. (Southend lost at home but Browny's out of it now - his midweek quotes sounded less like a Come And Get Me Plea than a joint statement released outside a Marriage Guidance office.)

It's the signal it would send out. That would scream absolute bottom of the barrel budget wise and probably staying in a transfer embargo.

We need a manager to get the best out of our developing Young lads with a few experienced heads thrown in. Peter Reid is the man who got Jimmy to stop bringing a young kid on and instead got him to bring Emile bleedin Heskey on.

Reid is old hat. I'd find it an incredibly poor choice in so many ways.

I'm not sure to whom the piece in the programme was attributed, but if it was Deano or Anderson, then any sensible bookie would suspend betting. You don't make money allowing people to bet on an outcome if that outcome is known to at least a few potential punters.

Odds are there when I checked on Oddschecker a minute ago. Uwe Rosler favourite at 2/1, followed by Bowyer, Brown and Cotterill at 6/1.

From that it's safe to say we've not appointed anyone. With the way these markets are even a medium sized bet would have someone at odds on pretty sharpish.

Personally, I think there are worse ways to spend a fiver than sticking it on Jimmy Phillips (33/1).
