Wellington Silva
He played for the first 45 mins of the U21s game against City last night and scored 2 excellent goals. He was a joy to watch and a class above any one else, I'd love to see his loan extended next season IF we can afford him. Unfortunately the youngsters lost on penalties after ending 90 mins 2 all. He gave his boots and shin pads to 2 young lads( aged about 8 or 9 I woukd think) and happily chatted away to them. He didn't have to do that but I expect he now has 2 fans for life. Well done Wellie a lovely gesture.
Also there watching was Rob Holding who also was happy to chat to anyone who stopped to talk to him. Nice to see in this day of some footballers thinking themselves a breed apart from us mere mortals.

Can't see Silva staying for league one personally.

For me the jury is still out on Silva. Lots of fancy stepovers, but usually overplays. And his main threat is cutting inside. Once teams know that and block the run he offers relatively little.
I'm sure he'd be a threat in league one at times but in my view we need a wideman who more consistently delivers good balls into the box.

aye - and hopefully someone in the box to get on the end of them....BWFC_Insane wrote:For me the jury is still out on Silva. Lots of fancy stepovers, but usually overplays. And his main threat is cutting inside. Once teams know that and block the run he offers relatively little.

Silva is still young and needs playing time. I'd not write him off just yet. Anyway, if Afobe can go for 10m, then Wellie has to be a prospect for at least similar.

Re: Wellington Silva
Depends who (clubs like) Arsenal want to lend us, and whether the players want to come, and whether we can afford what we're asked.
Cutting inside is often more effective than crossing, which is notoriously inefficient (as Bish says, it helps if you've got someone who's gonna win the header). If your team's set up correctly, your full-backs can offer the width to stretch a team and make gaps in the inside-forward channels for the inverted winger to exploit. If, however, your full-backs are stood on the halfway line with their hands on their hips, yer winger's just running into a space full of happy defenders.
Will Silva make it? No idea, but I'm glad to hear he's being good socially.
