With the squad they have – Stones, Baines, Coleman, Barry, Barkley, McCarthy, Mirallas, Deulofeu, Lennon, Lukaku – they should do better than they frequently do. He's always been a manager whose teams go on long runs of wins and losses - that's why he had to save Wigan with late winning runs, because they'd gone two months or more without winning - but at a big club that kind of pressure builds.

Short answer: his teams can't defend. Mersey derby, weren't they outshot 37 to 3?
