McDermott seems like a nice enough fella but I'm not sure he's what we need and I still proclaim "Adkins or I riot"

McDermott doesn't float my boat or tick the third-tier experience box (mine and apparently the board's). I think I'm still leaning toward Adkins but I'm not against Cotterrill, intrigued by the possibility of Evans and fascinated by who the about-to-be-available mon could be.

Phil Parkinson could be a good shout. Bradford just been taken over
by German owners, might have new ideas?

He's spent the last two years in our new division.

Flitcroft, well, I wouldn't be too disappointed, quite like him, but to trot out an old horse, I'd rather have his brother.
Was sat no more than 5 metres away from Flitcroft at a game earlier in the season - beyond trotting out the pub league manager platitudes ("Come on lads, we're better than this" anyone?) he hasn't a fecking clue what he's doing. Chris Brass and Massive Futcher appear to be the 'brains' there.

we could always go for Granny (Dean) Smith

or... Paul Cox's English Pippin...

Could be a good shout for the guy who may soon be leaving his club. He's done very well on a tiny budget.

A tiny budget? He'll have to learn to wind his neck in then.

Yeah, good spot. The new owners are said to want Uwe Rosler, so Parky's already been linked with us, Blackburn, Forest and Derby, although the latter opening has closed. Blackburn might interest him - he's a Chorley lad - but note that there's now a job available at Reading, where Parkinson played 350+ games, captained them to promotion and was voted their best ever midfielder.

Out of those on the shortlist, I strongly favour Adkins. He's got a good reputation for working with young players and everyone seems to like hhim, so I think he'd be the sort who can bring the best out of what we've got and create some positive momentum. I think he's chosen tough jobs since he left Southampton but the position we're in now isn't dissimilar to what he had there, so hopefully he's our next manager.

Southampton had an outstanding academy and huge amounts to spend.

I'd be happy with Adkins but the positions are very different.

So they are; obviously relevant experience isn't a tick-box for them. Well, good, if it makes him an option for us.

Another 3 team pub league. He'll do well.

They spent £150k in Adkins' first season and the only 'big' money signing in the next was Billy Sharp. It's not like they overhauled the squad, signing eight £2m+ players, they made one decent money signing in getting promoted to the Premier League. They spent more after that but so would we if we were to get promoted back to the Premier League.

They did have a better academy than we have now, yes, but Adkins' got the best out of them, which is what we need now. Talent doesn't necessarily thrive under any conditions so whose to say what would have happened to their bright prospects if they'd had clueless, divisive managers in charge? We have a good academy and which is why we need a manager with an impressive record of working with young talent and bringing the best out of them, which Adkins has.
