Mind you, in all seriousness, remember that (per Mail on Sunday) the average League One player wage is £69.5k pa or £1,337 per week – which means that if The Sun's numbers (below) are correct, our four main earners are pulling in the equivalent of a 49-man League One squad. Add in the other five names listed below, and those nine players are earning the equivalent of an 84-man squad. Which would indeed be fairly huge, especially as we've got another 14 players in the tour/matchday squad.
(Players on tour not listed above: Will Jaaskelainen, Alex Finney, Lawrie Wilson, Mark Beevers, Rob Holding, Filip Twardzik, Josh Vela, Chris Taylor, Tom Walker, Kaiyne Woolery, Max Clayton, Zach Clough, Conor Wilkinson, Jamie Proctor)

Neither does Parkinson. See his recent interview on YouTube.boltonboris wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:. I don't see the squad as is being strong enough to compete for promotion.

Squad will get stronger though as I say.
He says he is 'far from happy about where we are' in terms of squad strength and balance. So I'd only echo his thoughts and I think he knows exactly what he's doing. We will be stronger by the end of the window I'm sure.

He's just signed for Man City, think we may have missed a trick here.Bruce Rioja wrote:Big Dan's added the highlights to his bashing stash!Nicko58 wrote:We have nothing to apologise to him for. Better than any English midfielder last night.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

For pure individual talent maybe but in terms of getting out of league 1 maybe not.
I'll call our promotion chances at the end of the window and still will be guessing.

Re: For new signings, ask the man from the Pru
The only players who might go who anyone should care about are Clough and Holding. And even Clough went missing a lot last season and there is a question as to whether he'd be muscled out of league one games as he was many times last season.
Rest can go and so long as we bring in someone who wants to try we will be stronger.
Likes of Pratley, Davies etc haven't been bothered, we want players who pull the shirt on and wear it with pride.

It's not occurred to you that it's common to under-delivers on expectation then?BWFC_Insane wrote: Neither does Parkinson. See his recent interview on YouTube.

He's not talking about that. He's asked if he wants to add more players to the squad and his reply is along the lines of 'yes, I'm far from happy with it as it stands, any fan can see we are light in some areas and it needs rebalancing in others'Bruce Rioja wrote:It's not occurred to you that it's common to under-delivers on expectation then?BWFC_Insane wrote: Neither does Parkinson. Not about setting low expectations. Just about him rightly pointing out as it stands the squad has some significant gaps.
Re: For new signings, ask the man from the Pru
I care about those shirking bastards leaving if it means we can afford 3 or 4 new signings per Pratley/Mavies. None of them will have Mavies' talent but will almost certainly contribute more per pound spent.BWFC_Insane wrote:The only players who might go who anyone should care about are Clough and Holding. Very common among Bolton managers – I'd say the last five have all under-delivered on expectation...Bruce Rioja wrote:It's not occurred to you that it's common to under-delivers on expectation then?BWFC_Insane wrote:Neither does Parkinson. See his recent interview on YouTube.
Obviously the squad needs rebalancing but I doubt Parky was asked "Do you think the current squad is capable of promotion?" and said "No."
Clough is an interesting one because I think he can only really play effectively in one position: off the main striker. (He'll have a go playing out wide, or up top alone, but he's far from at his best.) Whether that's a 4-4-2 or a 4-2-3-1 is just parsing numbers and space, but either way it's an offensive system requiring a hard-working midfield, which I have no doubt is what Parky wants anyway. But I wonder if this relatively limited skill-set will discourage buyers of the calibre that would interest Zach and us.
Interesting to read McGinlay in the BN saying he thinks Madine could come good with a bit of specialist coaching (from, say, McGinlay). Also interesting to read that Lennon wanted McGinlay to do that at the start of last season, but Gartside and the then board vetoed it.

I don't disagree with McGinlay in what he says, but I'm not sure saying this publically is going to lead to him getting that one on one coaching rile.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Very common among Bolton managers – I'd say the last five have all under-delivered on expectation...Bruce Rioja wrote:It's not occurred to you that it's common to under-delivers on expectation then?BWFC_Insane wrote:Neither does Parkinson. “Don’t get me wrong, I think Madine was a bit lazy at times and his attitude can be questioned too. But if you can get him into a bit of scoring form then you will see a completely different player.”

See, for me, whilst Madine is not very good generally, if he applied himself as a target man and really worked at holding the ball up, he might have some use. I don't think he's got zero ability. He just can't be arsed most of the time.Bruce Rioja wrote:And his chronic lack of ability, JM?BWFC_Insane wrote:“Don’t get me wrong, I think Madine was a bit lazy at times and his attitude can be questioned too.

I can't agree. How many times has he actually managed to get himself into position and completely missed the target from 6 yards? Don't get me wrong, I also question his work ethic too, but along with every single other 'attribute'.BWFC_Insane wrote:See, for me, whilst Madine is not very good generally, if he applied himself as a target man and really worked at holding the ball up, he might have some use. Football is weird - it is entirely possible that madine will be a sensation next season...throwawayboltonian wrote: He's got a decent eye for passing and movement, and the ball sticks to him very well when he's actually trying.
but the few times I have seen him live - the ball absolutely did NOT stick to him!
