Cern most certainly is. My former Company seconded a few Technologists AND supplied some equipment and products.thebish wrote:aye - and the experience of progress is that it is often kite0-flying research that leads to the expansion of knowledge... that's a good thing.bobo the clown wrote:^^no-one is arguing about research on drugs. I I found a bucket of Higgs Bosun what would I do with it ?
i think the idea that people are handed billions of quids with no restrictions and a looney idea to research bobbins and live off the fat of their gold-plated grants is simply Daily-Mail bobbins-talk.
The sales were snigger-making from the Commercial side. The prices we got were ludicrous. Negotiations consisted of "How mush is that ?" .... "Ooooh. Heck on a lot (states number we knew we'd never get but it was a start)" .... "that'll be fine. Thanks. I assume that is £Sterling ?" ..."Oh ... err ... err ... yes. Yes, of course £sterling (it wasn't we always dealt in $'s)" .... "OK. Done" ... "Thank you VERY much".
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

A fantastic example of EU stimulus economics no? Or are you suggesting your company misused the money?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

I'm suggesting a zero level of commercial awareness, gross overspending, managed by amateurs, no corporate Governance .... y'know, uncontrolled public spending on a European scale.Lord Kangana wrote:A fantastic example of EU stimulus economics no? Re: Brexit or Britin
So your companies profits were overstated and the companies share value was overinflated by the actions of the EU then? I wonder how many companies this is happening to, and when that money stops how much effect it will havebon our economy?

Incompetence is hardly the basis of an economic miracle, now is it ?

If the net result was gain, why would the intention matter?

It is up to the leavers to sort it out. Think it's great that there's a good few of them in Government to deliver on their promises. Can't wait for the land of milk n honey. Get on with it, already.Hoboh wrote:I'll bet some of the remainers who said on here It was up to the leavers to sort things out will be smiling tonight

Very selfish of me to want access to safe pharmaceuticals in a timely fashionHoboh wrote:Yep and they will be holding the sun back for a couple of mins every day just to spite the Brits as well!Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:No surprise here. I mentioned this several weeks back...

There is nothing project fear about the EMA leaving the UK. There is no spite, it's a simple case of an EU institution having to be based in an EU country. When the UK leaves the EU it will the UK as soon as it is able to. This is a fact.

Oh you mean the 'quick fix' EU regs that affected those people on clinical trials in France then?Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Very selfish of me to want access to safe pharmaceuticals in a timely fashionHoboh wrote:Yep and they will be holding the sun back for a couple of mins every day just to spite the Brits as well!Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:No surprise here. The ones designed to get medical stuff on the market quick for the large Phama industries?
I am not anti medical trials (in fact I'm part of one) nor am I anti drug development nor anything else but it is a bit rich to suggest that just because the EU has been eroding nation governments abilities for years to suggest the world is ending.
Maybe we should turn all our wind turbines towards the continent and blow back the shitty air they send us from time to time?

Re: Brexit or Britin
They've been harmonising standards across the EU to the higher standard, not the lowest. They've harmonised the process of getting drugs to market, meaning a pharma company has 1 process rather than 28, meaning lower cost and significantly less time. They've harmonised reporting of adverse effects, meaning if someone has a bad reaction to something in say Bulgaria then it is reported not just to the Bulgarian authorities but to the EMA who collate info from all authorities. This means problems are known about in greater detail and quicker. This means you've less chance of taking a dodgy drug. I've seen this working at first hand and it saves lives.Hoboh wrote: Oh you mean the 'quick fix' EU regs that affected those people on clinical trials in France then?

None of this might matter to you, but it does matter to the health of the nation. Still, ignorance is bliss eh...

While I appreciate since folk are on a fishing mission. There's a nice irony about people posting on internet forums about how useful CERN are and how they don't have any real world applications!

Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

I think the internet receded CERN & would have developed quite nicely without it.Prufrock wrote:While I appreciate since folk are on a fishing mission. There's a nice irony about people posting on internet forums about how useful CERN are and how they don't have any real world applications!

If we were that worried as a species about the unreliability of cutting-edge technology, I'm pretty sure we'd all still be hurling rocks at each other and staring at fires "ooh fire".... only less well articulated, because of course we all know what fire is so why invent a word for it?
I appreciate it's hard to back down when you've made a bit of a silly point, but that notwithstanding, it's a silly point. Progress is a nice thing.

Quite excited for you to explain how the Internet precedes the formation of CERN, is this going to be some tinfoil hat conspiracy shit?bobo the clown wrote:I think the internet receded CERN & would have developed quite nicely without it.Prufrock wrote:While I appreciate since folk are on a fishing mission.
