Because he's a massive-chinned, shithouse, Toby Jug. Why in the name of the blue fecking blazes might we be looking to sign the totally hopeless c*nt back on?Harry Genshaw wrote:0-1 down. Wheater giving away the most blatant penalty you'll ever see

Couldn't agree more Bruce, TBH I'm quite shocked that Parkinson is even thinking about re signing Wheater. We need to rid the team of as many of last season's shithouses as possible not resign one of the slowest, carthorse defenders out there - there must be loads of ex championship CB's out of contract who are better, cheaper & much quicker than Wheater - he (PP) supposedly knows the lower leagues doesn't he.Bruce Rioja wrote:Because he's a massive-chinned, shithouse, Toby Jug. 1-1 - great ball from Trotter capitalising on a mistake in the clarets defence & nice finish from Spearing

Re: Pre Season Friendlies
I accept that it isn’t exactly an achievement to write home about, but I have to say that I thought Wheater was one of our best performers in the season just gone. If we do sign him again and he manages to stay fit, I think that he’ll probably be one of the best centre-backs in the league.Peter Thompson wrote:Couldn't agree more Bruce, TBH I'm quite shocked that Parkinson is even thinking about re signing Wheater. ^ If Parky was in two minds about offering Wheater a contract then on tonight's evidence he's out of the door

Re: Pre Season Friendlies
If he was up against Andre Gray then he gets a free pass, as I reckon Andre Gray is capable of making the majority of defenders in the country look ordinary.Harry Genshaw wrote:^ If Parky was in two minds about offering Wheater a contract then on tonight's evidence he's out of the door

1-2. Young Finney doing a great recovery tackle but their striker hammered home the loose ball

Re: Pre Season Friendlies
That would be Wheater, out Ex-England, Premiership defender, up until last season on a Premiership salary, not being able to defend against a striker who's never played above Championship?Nicko58 wrote:If he was up against Andre Gray then he gets a free pass, as I reckon Andre Gray is capable of making the majority of defenders in the country look ordinary.Harry Genshaw wrote:^ If Parky was in two minds about offering Wheater a contract then on tonight's evidence he's out of the door
No free pass from me thanks unless all those other things change significantly....
He's always been painfully slow and regularly caught out when we played high defensive lines. I'd rather save the wages.
Re: Pre Season Friendlies
Gray is one of the best up and coming strikers in the country. Wheater isn't at Gray's level but he's plenty good enough for where we are right now in my opinion.Worthy4England wrote:That would be Wheater, out Ex-England, Premiership defender, up until last season on a Premiership salary, not being able to defend against a striker who's never played above Championship?Nicko58 wrote:If he was up against Andre Gray then he gets a free pass, as I reckon Andre Gray is capable of making the majority of defenders in the country look ordinary.Harry Genshaw wrote:^ If Parky was in two minds about offering Wheater a contract then on tonight's evidence he's out of the door

Re: Pre Season Friendlies
I haven't seen much evidence to support your contention that Wheater is good enough at this level. He's been found plenty wanting at the last two levels.

Plus we appear to be stuck with that useless shithouse Doreen and Beevers is also big and slow. Need to be looking elsewhere.

Re: Pre Season Friendlies
On the basis of tonight I'd sign that Collins before Wheater.
Wheater gave the penalty away needlessly.
Thought we looked well organised tonight and the midfield certainly hugely improved. Soearing the stand out.
It was a functional line up and played like one with Wilson on the right wing but I think we showed a far better structure to the side than last year.
Clearly a winger and full back short and arguably a bit more pace up front too.

Re: Pre Season Friendlies
I see Danny Collins got nearly 70 minutes after Dervite went off injured. Did he look up to much? I haven't exactly heard glowing reports of his Rotherham performances, although TBH these comments were on Twitter, which can be about as balanced and rational as the YouTube commentariat...

You're making excuses for him now. Re: Pre Season Friendlies
Wouldn't say he's shit entirely. But he is injury prone, seems to take a while to get going and after a run of games can look a decent defender. Never been worth the money we were paying him though and he does, make errors.Bruce Rioja wrote:You're making excuses for him now. I think we can do better and hope we will. Only thing going in Wheater's favour is he does seem to actively want to stay here and I assume he does have offers elsewhere (perhaps not very good ones though).
