Exactly, Nick Powell, Chris Smalling were both unproven and went for shed loads! sure there's more if I could be assed to dig around

To use Arsenal as the buying club in question, they bought Callum Chambers for £16mil from Southampton off the back of 25 Premier League appearances, but only paid £1mil to take Carl Jenkinson off League One Charlton. I personally think what they paid for Holding is about right.
As for the likes of Mavies and Pratley, expecting players to do what they have never been able to do before is the road to madness.

Quite different to a lad who has played 30 games at a side finishing well adrift bottom of the championship. The financial circumstances of premiership and UEFA cup finalists Fulham and league one, under embargo Bolton also play a huge part.
If we were in the premiership we'd not have sold Holding for two million. As we aren't and the lad has won about 2 senior games in his life and we have no money and the league monitoring our finances, it makes any comparison to Smalling fairly irrelevant does it not?

Smalling was still fairly unproven! by your logic then, everyone who's played in the UFEA sodding cup is worth shed loads? I'll raise you the Toulon tournament

Highly rated English talent is at a premium! Am I wrong in wanting a better deal for the club?? Just pisses me of when you look around and see 100+ million being spent on an over rated Paul sodding Pogba!
I'm well aware of the situation were in, it still doesn't make it any less painful when you see a struggling club raped of it's home grown talent! I couldn't give a shit how many games he's played and in what league he's played them! the fact that Arsenal highly rate him (and 1 or 2 other prem clubs) to come sniffing around proves to me, if no one else, that he's worth some decent dosh!
Arsenal haven't done nothing wrong! but stil....

Not wrong to want more but I think easy to lose sight of reality. Arsenal offered initially 750K at the end of last season. We turned it down and waited for more. We tried to get an auction going, and spent two months waiting and haggling. Arsenal improved their initial offer by more than 100%.plymouth wanderer wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:Smalling played for Premiership side Fulham and had featured in their UEFA cup runners up campaign.plymouth wanderer wrote:malcd1 wrote:Can't say for a League 1 player but what did Man U pay for Phil Jones? £16 or £17 million? 19 year old, played 35 games for Blackburn before his big move. Reality is that whether you say Holding was unproven or has amazing potential, he was still in a situation entirely different to that of Smalling and others people have tried to compare deals with.
I like Holding and do think he's the best player we've produced for a long while, but still I can see on the other side of the argument that if I were an Arsenal fan I'd probably think spending a couple of million on someone yet to barely win a senior game was probably a little ott.
All depends on point of view. And more important than experience and potential is probably the bargaining position of the selling club.

Re: For new signings, ask the man from the Pru
It's sorta "what goes around" for me. Vardy cost £1m. We paid £500?k on a punt for Eaves from Oldham...I agree I want the best deal but realistically £2m for an unproven youngster who probably isn't known the full length of the street he lives in, could've been a lot lower, too.

According to the BN, "It is believed the deal could more than double in size [from the £2m up front] should Holding eventually help Arsenal to success or achieve full international status. A sell-on clause has also been included, which could benefit the Whites in future years."
Re: For new signings, ask the man from the Pru
Holding also scored his first goal for Arsenal in a friendly against Chivas.

Re: For new signings, ask the man from the Pru
According to this article http://the72.co.uk/31498/top-5-transfer ... players/2/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; the highest transfer fees for League 1 players are:
5) Dwight Gayle £3.7m
4) Dele Alli £4.6m
3) Assombalonga £4.8m
2) Nick Powell £5.25m
1) Fabian Delph £6.7m
You don't have to head too far down that list to make £2m look about right (although I'd have preferred £6.7m
)
Edit: Also need to bear in mind the differential between forwards and defenders...As far as I can see, David Luiz is the highest defensive transfer fee at £40m - less than half the £86m for Bale...So £2m for a defender probably not too out of kilter with £4.6m for Dele Alli.

Re: For new signings, ask the man from the Pru
Presumably clearing the way to sign a defender - and, I'd further presume, a centre-back given we can actually get by with Wilson (or Vela) at RB, whereas we're very much struggling for eligible CBs.TonyDomingos wrote:@FilipTwardzik has left #BWFC after a mutual agreement was reached to cancel his contract» bit.ly/2aosKBN
That said, depends what (say) Wheater is asking and whether we want to pay that.

Re: For new signings, ask the man from the Pru
Dunno who covers Moxey (I'd've kept Maher) but we've had two trialist right-backs and none on the other side, AFAIK.
Frazer Richardson has played at LB, but much more at RB.

Is Danny Collins still around? He's played there before.
