Just brilliant viewing! What a down to earth couple as well. And the rest of the team were great.

Stopping up til 2 now to watch lauras Muirhead and Weightman in the 1500m. Muirhead broke Kelly Holmes GB record winning the London diamond league last month so possible medal chance.

To round the day off, Jack Laugher won silver in the individual diving.

That pole vault win by da Silva was incredible. Poor behaviour by some brazilian wankers to boo the favourite and defending champion Lavillenie on the runway. Ill advised of him to compare his treatment by a partisan crowd to that of Jesse Owens in 1936! He's since apologised for 'a poor comparison.' Fair enough. Emotions run high.

Not the first boxing result I'd have questioned. One thing that baffles is, have the rules changed when the referee says "break!" ? In the past it meant break and stand off then commence; now, hitting on the break which was always forbidden seems to be totally ignored and obeying the rules risks a dodgy hit. The whole boxing contest seems dodgy.
He's not happy about it.

Is it possible not to smile whenever Nicola Adams is interviewed on TV?

Yep. The French especially.

If they have evidence other than "how can they be better than us ?" they should produce it. Otherwise shut the fck up. In fact the British riders/association should sue.

That's the difference between a court-based legal finding ... and 'having a view'. :-)

it's down to cash...

UI heard on t'radio that the state-sponsorship (lottery) cash we pour into our olympians DWARVES every other nation and is bigger than nearly all of them put together...

it was swimming or cycling - the U.S. have ONE full-time employee - whereas we have DOZENS...

it's lottery cash - wisely spent - we're the ManCiteh of the olympics... it's not a level playing field!

Using that Guardian article the Aussies spend half what we do on cycling. Per capita that's way more than us. We're not City. We're just better than them :D

Per capita isn't how it works though. (Though natural superiority might have something to do with it) There are left-wing and right-wing claims on this. It's an example of planned, centralised spending that has been hugely successful. It's also uncompromising ruthless in how it's targeted. If you don't look like medalling or at least making a final, you're getting an economy class ticket and £50 a year.

Yes, the more succcesful the sport the greater funding but we only spend double on cycling what Australia do and have what 10 times the population?

But the vast majority of that budget goes to the elite BC track squad, not spread over the whole population, so elite BC cyclists get double the money spent on them as the Aussies.
