Re: This weeks RIP's........
The announcement of the passing of Gene Wilder remided me of that of Mickey Rooney, in that I thought that he was already dead
A fine actor, and I imagine also an excellent gentleman.

Was there to see him Tee off The Masters in 2012 (followed by Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player). Smacked it straight down the middle with as graceful a shot as you'll ever see. As you say, a true golf legend.TANGODANCER wrote:Saw it on the news this morning. A true golf legend. R.I.P.Bruce Rioja wrote:Arnold Palmer. 87. RIP

Ditto to all of this and more. A gentleman and credit to the game, which I can say about Jack but not Tiger. When Johnny Carson asked his wife if she had any superstitions, she replied: Yes, I kiss his balls for luck. Johnny's response was about the only time one saw Arnie lose his composure. His Army lost a great leader.Bruce Rioja wrote:Was there to see him Tee off The Masters in 2012 (followed by Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player). Shimon Peres, one of the few Israeli statesmen who really did try to bring peace to that troubled part of the world.

Just heard that former Bristol City midfielder Gerry Gow's passed away aged only 64. Didn't he score a howitzer against us on the opening day of 78/79 (Our first game back in the first division)? RIP.

Yup. He did. I remember going up, thinking not bad - Brizzle City 1st game at home (I think) - and watching him comprehensively boss the midfield...RIPBruce Rioja wrote:Just heard that former Bristol City midfielder Gerry Gow's passed away aged only 64. I was hoping to find footage of the match as I remember it being shown on MotD (when they only used to show two games), but I've drawn a blank.Worthy4England wrote:Yup. He did. Mick Gildea, former Bolton hairdresser and ex Thornleigh lad who passed on at 76. Went on to do counselling against alcholism and was a decent lad all round. Knew him from when we were kids and he used to come up and play football on Holy Harbour on Rushey Fold Lane. Good mate of my brother's. Condolences to his family and R.I.P Michael.

Re: This weeks RIP's........
Really saddened to learn of the passing of the wonderful and prolific singer, songwriter and musician, Bap Kennedy, last night, aged just 54. Cancer really doesn't give a feck as to whose door it calls at. Bap was someone who I got to be in touch with over recent years, along with his wife, Brenda. Most of his more recent work had been with the likes of Mark Knopfler, Van Morrison and Steve Earle. A genuine one-of-us-done-well and a thoroughly nice guy. RIP, Fella, and thank-you.
