Out it goes, back it comes and....Proctor almost clears but back they come and Alnwick has to be sharp to clear. Clough goes....and micmen have a chat about this and that (memories of Hulton Lane etc). We sally forth and....a pass or two ends with the keeper then Ameobi gives a free away. The excitement is nerve-shredding......

One min extra and......half-time and we lead 1-0. Brew time.....

Enlighten please....what should it be?
Sorry Tango. It was a 'joke' that wasn't aimed at you.

Bit of a good spell from us and...they get a bit of luck from a deflection and visit. Again they ride into the valley of death and gain a free kick right on our edge (mic man reckons that could have been in the box) And......it's a Wiganer. Some rugby chat then the Tangs sally and.....we clear. Bury go one down to Bradford in another episode of this dazzling competition.

Mic man speculates we migh have enticed a full thousand through the turnstyles (fifteen hundred actually) .....And Clough hits the post then scuffs it well wide off the rebound.

Again we go, again and again....and again....(all that was in one move) and.....and.....and.....a Bolton handball gets missed by the ref and.....Bury go two down. The Machine turns his engine over on the sidelines then........then......then.....then....they clear. Henry now and......we get a free kick amidst comments of "wonderful football" from mic man. Henry now and......and.....and.....it's over the top. Madine replaces Zack.

And now.....Guadal Canal and....oh, sorry, got carried away...Wheater sends a tank forth and stops a break by the Tangs. Ameobi and......oooohhhhhhh Linus makes a super save to deny the Machine. Corner and.....and.......its a goalkick. Tangs break and get a free kick. A break from them and.....Alnwick grabs it.

Derik steps in and clears the decks well and earns the good words from micman. We need that goal now because one is never a safety net. Come on Whites.....any win is a bonus....We go and.....get a free kick thirty out. Ref steps in and we re-take the kick and.......Henry and......Linus makes a save a the expense of a corner us. And......and....the Tangs clear for another corner. Outswinger and.......in, out, hacked clear and a throw to us. Sounds like good football but without the bullets. Now they sally ....and we clear.

We have another go and they eventually clear and break. Madine puts the hammer down and .....mic lads have a chat. Derik now and......we try again. Keep thinking Alnwick is one of theirs, but Vassel? arrives for them and Alec Samiwhatsit comes on for us. Samizade is the man, I hear and....well, eight minutes isn't long to score three?

Zico dispenses wisdom then Vela sets us forth once more. Voices echo in the stillness as we have it, lose it, and they visit.
They sound to have had a shot or two, whilst we.....er, don't? Well, a couple maybe. Hope we're not just parking the bus because we need another.....and Alnwick gets in the way of another attempt. A goal now could do it and......Zico splutters more wisdowm than they come again and.......and.....a bit of panic as Spearing comes on for Vela. Bit late for that really?

Corner them and....they have another as we play sardines. And Samuel's? effort is over the top. Three mins added and....the excitement mounts. Samuels causing a bit of havoc then Spearing gets a touch. Throw us and.....and....the Machine and Ameobi win a corner. Can this be a sensational win in this massive fixture..??? Henry, cleared, Samuels breaks and.....Wheater steps in and.......WE WIN....... :oyea:

Nice to see Samizadeh get the obligatory 10 minutes. Just enough time for people to say he looked off the pace and isn't good enough etc.. As though he should have had enough time to make an impact or some other bollocks

Needs a good 30-45 minutes in my opinion

Heh, more rule-based fun. According to the Guardian, "Clubs must field five ‘first-team’ players – five who played in the team’s last league match, five who will play in the next league game or the club’s five highest appearance-makers this season." Like the bits we already knew, the underlined part is well-meaning but laughable: what's to stop a manager claiming his suddenly-chosen fringe players are injured, which is such as shame as they were definitely going to keep their place?

Worth a minute to read that (shortish) piece, actually. Bradford subbed their (first-choice) keeper after three minutes, the assistant manager quipping that he'd had a poor 45 seconds. Again, nobody went to the games. And there's some good quotes from McDons' Karl Robinson asking how the EFL can claim it's good for youth development when the clubs are strongarmed into playing five first-teamers.

It is good to see that with all these wonderful changes the clubs are now taking this competition seriously and these significant improvements have caught the imagination of the fans who have been queuing round the block to get the fantastic opportunity to see some Premier Leagues under 23 sides.

And Blackburn, Brighton, Derby, Norwich, Reading and Wolves.

In honesty, I can see that it might have made sense if it were All The Big Teams sending their glistening Next Big Things. I'm not sure the EFL would have pursued the path had they known that MU, MC, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs would pull out. I'm not sure what the JPT group attendances were like last year but I bet they weren't all sold out. Football fans always suspect change (there were those who didn't want the backpass banned) and on some occasions they're right.

One big problem is that instead of making the competition more glamorous (here come Marcus Rashford and Alex Iwobi!) the involvement of the lesser sides in the top two tiers only makes it look like the tail is wagging the dog: this is the Associate Members' Cup, created for the benefit of what were then Division Three and Four clubs, but now it seems like a half-arsed party for third-class rich relations.

I was quite looking forward to it in a nostalgic 'every cloud...' kind of way.
Anyway bollocks to it, we're at least back in the 1st round of the FA Cup in just a few weeks. I want Southport or Harrogate Town away.

Did I read the match stats right? 3 shots on goal in 90 minutes against a team a division lower than us? It's starting to look a lot more like a long hard season of frustration to come. Clearly PP lacks either the imagination or the coaching skills to sort this out. I'll be more than happy to be proven wrong.

Not necessarily disagreeing with your general tone, but the BBC says we had 12 attempts last night (albeit only 2 on target, and Blackpool had more of each).

We were shite last night again. Though at least 1000 times better than we played Saturday.

If Blackpool had any quality whatsoever they'd have tonked us but they're shite and all.
