Has our judicial system slipped some 'presumed' business in somewhere?

The presumption of innocence has been part of common law for centuries, and can be found in Justinian's code. It is quite an important concept as well as an ancient one. The presumption is before the jury renders a verdict. Put another way, we say "Innocent until proven guilty".

A: Guilty?

B: Not Guilty

Section 58 allows the prosecution to appeal a ruling by the judge that:
relates to one or more offences included in the indictment;
was made at any time until the start of the judge's summing up;
has the effect of terminating the trial.

There is, therefore, no right of appeal against a judge misdirecting a jury in his summing up.

I'd wager most middle eastern children can't swim. So as a solution to this, and a quick way of verifying their ages, perhaps tie a smallish weight to their feet and throw them into some deep water. If they drown to their death then we know they were a genuine child. If they manage to swim and survive they are clearly an adult so can be deported immediately or shot. Whichever.

No - about 2,500 - I thought you were trying to get Immigration down from 327,000+?

Don't get me wrong, taking 373 off that number (65% of the 574 who had age assessments and were found to be over 18) will all help.

Grandson took us to the clinic at Frederick Street Farnworth today for the wife to have the staples out of her knee. We came out to a ding dong row between a woman and an Asian taxi driver on he car park. He was screaming it was her fault until a bloke who had seen the whole thing said he was lying and he had reversed into her. Woman took a pic of his vehicle and registration number and staff from the clinic got involved with talk of police. The taxi driver then offered the woman money for repairs and confessed he had no insurance....we left at that point...

A friend of ours is a head teacher of a primary school in a poor area of her town. They recently had an Iraqi child turn up to school, but 5 minutes after his arrival, the teacher called our friend into the classroom. Not only did he have the hairiest legs she'd ever seen on an 8 year old, but he couldn't physically get his knees under the desk. His parents explained that him being nearly 2 feet taller than his classmates just meant that he was a large boy. They tried to have his age re-evaluated, but he's still in the same class. His PE kit is an adult medium size.

About 5 years ago, my son played in a local under 14's footie team. One Saturday morning, they played a team from Walkden who had 2 lads up front from DR Congo who'd make Bruce look like a stunted waif. Both scored over a hundred goals that season. I got talking to a bloke from the League who reckoned that most Manchester boys teams now have at least one striker or centre half who is somewhere between 18 and 23. Can't blame the parents for doing the best to get their kids an education.

My lad, a keeper, took out one of the strikers in the first 5 minutes during a one on one. The kid buckled like a cheap bike wheel and had to be carried off. I'm not sure if I've ever been prouder.

Surely most of that (the sport side of things) has gone on for ever? I can remember certain Rugby and Cricket Teams we'd play coming up through the age groups used to have "blokes with full beards" at unfeasibly young ages - pretty much all white - almost certainly at least one age group too old, and on occasion 2 or 3...

At the time the Rugby team I played for was recognised as being pretty good, so at U16 level, we'd generally see a couple of ringers in the oppo's sides - next step up would make them 18 and then it was U21 (so not quite 23 ), but could still be 5 years older than a 16 year old and not all our U16's were 16 - I played for them at 14 so there could easily be a 5/6/7 year gap.
