In Canada you cannot be refused treatment of an emergency condition, although the hospital may try to bill you later (hard to collect if you've gone home). When we are abroad medicare pays for our treatment but only at the rate they would pay to local hospitals/doctors - so we become responsible for the difference which can be significant. Hence, travel insurance is strongly recommended though this is often part of employers' standard extended coverage plans.

And if you can'r pay, it fvcks your credit file as your govt bails you out, I presume?

I'm not really sure whether my government would bail me out or the affect on my credit rating. O've always had travel insurance. If you cannot pay in the US private hospitals can refuse you but there is usually a public hospital not too far away (with long waits, poor equipment and overworked staff).

One of the memorable moments in Michael Moore's Sicko film showing cctv footage of private hospitals dropping off the seriously ill and mentally unstable in taxis outside the Medicare facility

Wee Jimmy's banging on about a 2nd referendum for Scottish independence. Can one of you explain this to me please because as I see it Scotland voted to remain part of the UK. The UK voted to leave Europe. That's the end of the matter.

Their argument is that one of the main "No" arguments last time round was that if Scotland left it wouldn't be in the EU anymore.

Frankly, unless they can find a photo that someone put that on a bus, I don't think they've got a cat in hell's chance.

Can't wait for this anyway, ages since all anyone talked about for months was a referendum.

Technically speaking we voted to leave the EU. We're still very much going to be part of Europe.

They're being 'dragged' out of the EU unwillingly because a Scottish majority voted to remain. Though 38% of Scotland still wanted to leave.

Yes that is a big majority, but how they're seeing those numbers as validation that Scotland wants to leave the UK, I really don't know. London also voted to remain. I don't see them declaring their independence.

Scotland are also in a really bad state financially at the moment, so I honestly don't think that they can't afford to leave. They surely wouldn't meet the guidelines that the EU sets out to be able to rejoin them either.

Oh I don't know about that,

Brexit is about to start.

Wee fishy is trying to swim off again.

The Turkish mafia are threating all and asunder with retaliation for not allowing political campaigning on their sovereign territory emboldened by his new friendship with he who shall not be mentioned.

The big Mac muncher is again shouting his mouth off and threatening a US carrier group, only needs a French Fry lower down the chain to take him seriously.

Out of the headlines, Trump has sent a 1000 US Marines into Syria.

Africa is facing drought, again!

Oh yes, interesting times.

Forgot to add, the Greeks are getting near repayment time again and indications are they cannot afford it.

The French elections are becoming a race to the top of the least corrupt.

The Dutch may well serve notice that a free lunch for the EU mandarins is not exactly going to plan.

I'm quite relaxed about it. If they want to leave and in the process commit ritual suicide, so be it. It is hard to believe that the SNP are going to take the sweaties down the road of economic disaster without at least a majority of the population crying 'foul'.

Just realized I accidentally used a double negative there lol. They may not even get the opportunity if Theresa May blocks it from happening until after Brexit like the rumours suggest.

As with last time - they're welcome to it, if they want to go. Sure as hell nowt to do with me, guv. As with last time, we're keeping the quid. got the Queen's 'ead on it, innit.

As a small aside, the newly autonomous People's Republic of Mancunia is due to elect it's new President shortly. Looked at the Ballot paper, they seem to be called Mr Rock and Mr Hardplace. Of the "frontrunners", one of them has a long career of being useless and another isn't yet out of nappies.

Jim Sillars, a former SNP deputy leader, who voted leave in last June’s EU referendum, said last week he would abstain from the next independence referendum if Sturgeon insisted on joining the single market.
Sturgeon insisted on Monday that the Scottish National party still believed Scotland’s best interests lay in full EU membership, but she and other senior party figures have made clear they could yet drop that plan in order to win the independence vote.
Quick to change her knickers is little missy!
Just proves ALL she is about is independence at any price, I hope for their sakes, the Scottish people lay off the hard stuff long enough to realise that fact.
