Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
These things rarely happen in the order you might like. Ideally, we might want to sign up say Wheater then ALF then Morais then Taylor then Spearing – all on the terms we set, some of which will be pay cuts - but you're dealing with a lot of moving parts and they're all individual players with their own concerns. Some players (or their agents) might play hardball compared to others. Some will be happier to accept, and maybe after his time out of the game Jem's one of those. I would expect we're savvy enough to go in to each of them with a minimum realistic offer but with an upper limit in mind, and now we're in the back-and-forth stage.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2017 8:46 amYeah. Anyhow, official news delayed until tomorrow according to Lee Anderson out of respect to the victims of the Manchester Arena tragedy.

Was impressed with Karacan. Liked his mentality and hustle. D-Pratz with a winning streak. Exactly what we need.

Interesting - I saw him more as a Spearing, especially when Jay had an injury-enforced breather and Jem took over the role of dropping deep for the ball. That he could do either role (or even both) lends an intriguing air to the contract negotiations.

Looked more progressive than Spearing to me. Seemed to find space and his movement was superior to the rest of our midfield.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2017 12:42 pmInteresting - I saw him more as a Spearing, especially when Jay had an injury-enforced breather and Jem took over the role of dropping deep for the ball. My initial view was that he was the sort of box to box player we've missed. However, I do think a little more flimsy defensively than Spearing and Pratley. I think he'd go very well with Spearing in the Championship. Be a good midfield that with Vela just in front. Clearly that then needs another creative option to go in there when it isn't working and some extra creativity out wide.

Yeah, he gets forward more than Spearing. Then again, he usually had Spearing behind him.
When I say he reminded me of Spearing, I mean he was there to put his foot in. But then, it's a small sample size so far. It's possible that he looked busy because he was always arriving late; the best defensive midfielders read the game so they don't have to rush. Anyways, a good signing (tbc), a good start to the summer, and hopefully his signing will help persuade his mate ALF.

Yep. I'd not class Karacan as a defensive midfield player on what I've seen of him. However, you may have seen him play at Reading more than I did?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2017 12:58 pmYeah, he gets forward more than Spearing. Then again, he usually had Spearing behind him.

Was interesting that after all the talk about playing to get Vela in the box hence various shapes being played that against Port Vale's ten men, in the second half there was a deliberate shift where Vela went deep and Karacan was breaking past the front two.
Could've just been a legs thing as he went off after about an hour (ie. Go run yourself daft for 15) but noteworthy I guess.

Think he's more of an 8 than a 4 to go Inverting the Pyramid.

Aye. More raumdeuter than regista <shoots self in face>

I think he's got the skills (tackling, anticipation, aggression) to play as the defensive cover (a la Spearing) but I also agree that he could be a lot busier than that, especially with a Parky pre-season.

Karacan now confirmed. 1 year deal with another year's option.
Gives me hope that if we can agree a deal with a lad who has recently been playing in Turkey - presumably earning big bucks - who has a real pedigree, that we are offering competitive wages for the position we are in. So should be able to get a fair few others (back and newly) through the door too.

I'm glad he's signed, but it's more accurate to realise that he was out of work.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2017 9:38 amKaracan now confirmed. 1 year deal with another year's option.

He was out of work. But technically all our out of contract players are out of work.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2017 10:36 amI'm glad he's signed, but it's more accurate to realise that he was out of work.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2017 9:38 amKaracan now confirmed. 1 year deal with another year's option.

Karacan has played at a higher level than many of ours though. So all I mean is, that I'm sure there would have been demand for him, and that arguably he was more desirable elsewhere than some of our other players.
Clearly the balance to that is he may have slipped off the radar whilst in Turkey compared to say, some of our lads' league one exploits.
However, financially I'd have thought Jem was up there towards the higher end of our out of contract lot.

Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
This is technically true: he's played one Champions League game, Spearing has played two. Andy Taylor has played three UEFA Cup games, David Wheater one UEFA Cup game. Dorian Dervite, bless him, was an unused sub in two UEFA Cup games. Filipe Morais played one Intertoto game.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2017 10:43 amKaracan has played at a higher level than many of ours though.
Premier League appearances:
Taylor 110
Wheater 105
Le Fondre 34
Spearing 30
Karacan 21
Thorpe 1

Didn't realise Taylor had played so many premiership games. Thought closer to 40/50.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2017 12:22 pmThis is technically true: he's played one Champions League game, Spearing has played two. Still that lad should never have been playing league one football last season, far too good for it. Hopefully we can get him sorted soon.

Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
Yeah, that raised my eyebrow too. Also ALF has made more PL appearances than Spearing (34 v 30) but played far fewer minutes (1,492 v 2,174). Supersub, innit.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2017 12:37 pmDidn't realise Taylor had played so many premiership games.

Looks like Phil's planning on hitching his tent here for a while..Re Taylor he says:
"I’m looking forward to working with him over the next two seasons.”
